Four people were killed after Russia came under the brunt of a coordinated attack on Kyiv early Friday, sparking firestorms and spitting fire along with Ukrainian authorities.
At least 27 people were injured as emergency teams responded to multiple strikes, said Tymur Tkachenko, Kyiv’s military chief. At least 430 drones and 18 missiles were used in this nationwide attack, Ukrainian President Voldkyy said.
He said that this attack, which hit other regions of the country, was aimed at kyiv. “An attack specially calculated to cause the greatest possible harm to people and civilians,” Zelenskyy said in a telegraphed post.
He added that the embassy of Azerbaijan was damaged by fragments of the Iskander Missile.
Fifteen people were hospitalized, including one man in critical condition and a pregnant woman, after a series of powerful explosions were heard in the city and air defenses were activated.
City authorities have warned that power and water outages are possible.

Falling debris and fires damaged high-rise buildings, a school, a medical center and administrative buildings across the city of three million, officials said.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said 30 settlements would be damaged, and urged allies to implement tough measures discussed at the G7 summit in Canada.
“This brutal attack on the victim shows the urgent need for new contributions to the defense of Ukraine and new measures to increase pressure on Russia, including the long-awaited decision on frozen goods,” wrote X.

Klitschko said Kyiv’s heating system was also damaged, with service interrupted in one district, but emergency exits were resolved.
Three high-rise residential buildings were destroyed in the DniProvskyi district east of the Dnipro River, he added, with nine residents displaced from one that was on fire.
Images showed flames rising over the house at various points, as residents lined streets of rubble outside the apartment complex.

The governor of Kyiv Region outside the capital said the drone attack and landing injured six people, including a seven-year-old child, and started several fires.
Ukraine’s Air Force said that Russian drones and guided bombs were targeting several other regions.
