Doctor in Matthew Perry Overry Overdiose Case sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison

A California doctor was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for illegally supplying ketamine, a powerful sedative that caused an actor’s drug overdose in 2023.
Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who operated an urgent care clinic outside of Los Angeles, pleaded guilty in Federal Court in July to Felony Amounts for the illegal distribution of birth control. He could have faced up to 40 years in prison if convicted in the case.
Prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Sherilyn to sentence Plasencia, 44, to three years in prison after a plea deal said the doctor pleaded guilty to illegally selling large amounts of ketamine.
He was not accused of selling out Manager’ Sitcom Star the volume that the investigators say they killed him on Oct 28, 2023.
Perry had been taking ketamine legally as a treatment for depression. But when his regular doctor wouldn’t give it at the price he wanted, he turned to Placencia, who agreed to sell illegally despite knowing he was a drug addict.
According to court documents, Plasencia wrote to another doctor that Perry was a “moron” who could be exploited for money.

Plasencia’s lawyers tried to paint a picture of his education in their Memo, as someone who rose from poverty to become a doctor beloved by his patients, some of whom gave evidence about him in court.
His lawyers said his sale to Perry was “shaming” and “the biggest mistake of his life.”
“Remorse cannot begin to capture the pain, regret and shame that Mr. Plasencia felt for this tragedy that happened and failed to prevent it,” said the Memo.
The Doctor pleaded guilty
But, the attorneys wrote, “A prison sentence is unnecessary and unwarranted. He has already lost his medical license, his clinic, and been attacked in the media and threatened by his family.”
Attorneys for Placencia say he moved to Arizona with his wife and two-year-old son.
“I want to be proud of my father,” Plasencia said in a video of himself and his lawyers with the judge. “I make mistakes, but I want him to know that I tried to make better decisions after my mistakes.”
Plasencia pleaded guilty in July to four counts of distribution of ketamine.
Prosecutors agreed to drop five separate counts. The deal was entered without a mandatory sentence, and under the law, Garnett could have given him 40 years.
Four other defendants who reached plea deals will be sentenced and have their hearings in the coming months.
