Donald Trump says he will allow Nvidia to sell the H200 artificial intelligence chip to China, according to a new post from the President on social media. The move will continue Bar Nvidia from selling the Chinese Blackwell developed in China, but it is still considered a win for the technology company because the low H20 Chip was classified by the Chinese government because it is not powerful enough.
Trump wrote on Monday that he immediately informed Chinese President Xi ngping that he would allow the sale of H200 chips “under conditions that allow for strong security.” Trump did not explain what those conditions would be, but said Nvidia will pay the US government 25% on chip sales to China.
In the summer, Nvidia and Amd agreed to give the US government 15% of the revenue from Chip sales to China in China’s Bizarrer QuID Pro QuOR, according to the Financial Times. Experts noted that at the time no private company had ever entered such a formation and the law was questioned. As Bloomberg notes, the Chinese government has urged potential customers to reject low-power h20 chips. It was not an obvious ban, and it is still reported that H20 is being considered in the country, but it is possible that some pressure is used in the US to re-do the debate if it is possible that the chips can not bite.
