GMEA @ 12 honors regional media and digital media vendors who help drive inclusive digital progress

The 12th Global Media Excellence Awards (GMEA @ 12) recognized 15 journalists and digital media vendors who deliver important social issues that provide public attention and show how technology and geography are subservient to daily life across regions.

Guided by the theme “#digitallyforrard:” One Barangay at a Time, “this year’s program focuses on the role of local people in expanding the issues of increasing access to technology, and helping families achieve their aspirations.

“We honor journalists and creators who embrace the way digital tools are opening doors for families, workers, and communities,” said Yoly Crisanto, Global Communications Officer. “The rapid movement in digital spaces shows how Filipinos are ready to embrace change. With GMEA @ 12, we reaffirm our commitment to the closeness of every home so people can pursue new ways and strengthen the bonds that drive progress.”

Annual Radio News Report
First place goes to Radyo Pilipinas Iloolo’s John Paul Helvas, who reported on DTI’s assistance to online businesses in Guimaras MSMES. Rowena CapistraNo of DYRF 1215 CEBU was placed second for the story on the delivery of Barangay needs. Sheila Glingazwi of DymR RADYO Pilipinas CEBU took third place for the feature on farmers from digital marketing.

TV news report of the year
Jaira Mae Mondez-Alis of PTV Davao won first and second place for a feature on the livelihood of the dict withorioy and a report on an attempt to travel by plane in Davao City, respectively. Mytv Cebu’s Quenue Grace Joligon placed third for covering the invention made from dirty materials.

Online News Report of the Year
Overxette Marie Erram of CDN Digital raised the category with the CEBU City flood concern report and ranked third in another flood-related category. Jonavie Villa of CEBU’s Freaman was placed second in the issue of teacher migration.

Photo of the year

Alan Tangcawan of MyTV Cebu’s Flood photos after the floods and the monsoon impact were placed first and second, respectively. Ralph Lawrence Llemit of Sunstar Davao received the third part to find a picture of a father and daughter with no feet and a daughter walking through the rain and floods.

Digital storytelling category

Mars Mosqueda Jr. of Businessnews.ph (Cebu) won the first place in the digital category of the Digital operation at the Sari-sari Store and the second place for the solar powered acquisition. Third place was secured by Cebu-based blogger Marjorie Maano of Dakilanglaaaaagan, who wrote about the use of Piso Wifi.

The best social media video
Abs-CBN News’ Annie fe Perez-Gallardo received first place for a story on the management of wildlife in Cebu and third for a video on mangrove protection. Joanne Clarisse Espinosa of MyTV Cebu was placed second for documenting the market’s fuel waste.

Special Prizes

NewsMaker of the Year was given to Mildred Galarpe, editor-in-chief of Cebu’s Sunstar Publishing Inc. While Editor of the Year presented to Cristina Alivio of Sunstar Davao.

This page The world of the best story of the year To Quenie Grace Joligon of Myttv Cebu for “Paglaum Gikan SA Basura: Ang Imbensyon Ni Benito,” his feature on Benito Samsoni and Diesel-from Plastic. Samsoni’s group, Carbonhanong Alyansa, was named a featured community and was given P20,000.

All first and second place winners will receive cash prizes and a nosobunotra GMEA @ 12 trophy made of recycled composites, a polymer based on bioderhy and Gbulwibe’s commitment to circular practices. CITS CORTS CASTEE will receive cash prizes and certificates.

GMEA @ 12 continues to highlight the three pillars of global sustainability: Digital Enablement and inclusion, social well-being, and climate action. Honorable mentions promote access to technology, support community development, and champion bold action in climate change and environmental protection.
