‘They are sick!’: Omar does not insist on being adopted as he suspects marriage fraud

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., called those concerned that she married his brother “sick” after the left-wing lawmaker was contacted by Fox News Digital about border kingpin Tom Homan, indicating that federal officials have begun digging into records related to the matter.
Homan said last week that records and files related to Omar’s possible immigration fraud are being pulled and looked at after President Donald Trump revived the decades-old scandal amid ongoing debate over the Somali Medicaid fraud scandal in Omar’s Minnesota state.
Although Homan suggested the possibility of fraud, he also pointed out that the statute of limitations could pose a problem in prosecuting Omar for any potential violations.

“Any answer to that [Homan] you say? And the public?” Fox News Digital asked Omar as he walked the halls of Congress.
“I don’t have an answer because I don’t know what they are going to investigate,” Omar replied.

“So you don’t think they’ll find anything?” he was asked.
“Not really,” replied Omar.

“Why do you think they keep bringing this up?” Omar was then asked before he got into the elevator and disappeared.
“Because they are sick!” he exclaimed.
But, according to a senior Senate Republican, if the allegations against Omar – that she married his brother to enter the US – are true, she would be breaking several laws.
“If this is true, Omar is facing charges under three different laws,” said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

Cruz testified that Omar could have committed corporate marriage fraudwhich makes it illegal to knowingly enter into a marriage to avoid immigration laws, and can result in up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and deportation.
Omar was born in Somalia and came to the US in 1995 after his family was granted asylum. He became a legal citizen in 2000.
In 2002, Omar married Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, and, in 2009, he legally married Elmi, a British citizen, despite maintaining his religious unity with Hirsi and continuing to have children with her.

Omar and Elmi separated in 2011 and did not officially separate until 2017, according to reports. In 2020, Omar married political consultant Tim Mynett.
In addition to marriage fraud, Cruz said Omar may have violated Minnesota’s consanguinity law, which is a felony in the state that carries a 10-year prison sentence. Cruz also pointed out that Omar could be guilty of tax fraud, especially if joint tax returns were filed while she was legally unmarried, a violation that could result in a $100,000 fine and up to three years in prison.
