Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., suggested that there is not yet enough reason to impeach President Donald Trump for a third time.

In an interview with USA Today’s Susan Page released Saturday, Pelosi was asked if the Democratic Party should consider criticizing Trump if he takes the House again in 2026.

“The person who was most responsible for criticizing President Trump when I was speaker was President Trump,” Pelosi began. “He didn’t give us a choice. He skipped his phone call with President Zelenskyy as another sign of disrespect for the Constitution, jeopardizing the sanctity of our elections in our country, and so on.”

He continued, “And, of course, January 6th. He can try to change the narrative all he wants, but we’re going to be there to make sure the public knows the truth about January 6th. It was a treason instigated by the President of the United States.”

Pelosi continued to criticize the Trump administration until Page asked if she could clarify whether she believed impeachment should be part of the party’s agenda.

“If he crosses the border again,” Pelosi replied. “But that’s not an accident. You say, ‘We’re going to do that.’ No, there must be a reason. There must be a reason. We had an update. This was a very serious, historic thing.”

He continued, “And our founders knew that there could be a brutal president, that’s why they filed a case in the Constitution. They didn’t know that there would be a brutal president at the same time as a corrupt Senate that didn’t have the courage to do the right thing. There were two sides in the Senate, but it wasn’t enough.”

Last year, Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, has filed several articles to impeach Trump in his second term. Most recently, Green moved to vote on two impeachment issues Wednesday night through a discretionary resolution, a mechanism that allows lawmakers to force action on a bill within two legislative days.
