For smart people, one of the main value propositions of Paramount+ is that the broadcaster is the home of all things Star Trek, since. However, the show ended up airing on Paramount+ for the first time in 2021, making it seem like the powers that be trusted their new show and wanted it to be a featured part of their new broadcast platform.
However, less than two years later, Paramount canceled the course Star Trek: The Prodigy and remove it from Paramount+ completely. This move seemed strange because work had already begun on Season 2, which seemed to have no domestic spread. That all changed, however, when Netflix started The Prodigy and released its highly acclaimed second season in 2024.

Now, however, The Prodigy will be leaving Netflix for a global audience in early 2026. This is part of a worldwide effort to scrub every single Star Trek show from the broadcaster, forcing fans to use Paramount+ for their Trek needs. That’s right: The Prodigy is the highest-rated Star Trek program ever made, and Paramount has confirmed it won’t be available anywhere for broadcast in 2026. This is doubly crazy because, after the studio’s high-profile merger with Skydance, they need all the hot shows and fan interest they can get. Unfortunately, rejecting the best Trek show while releasing movies that no one wants (Section 31) and the series nobody will care (Starfleet Academy) is a clear sign that these managers have no an idea of what to do with the greatest fantasy franchise ever made.
