Fermin Lopez highlights a ‘turning point’ for Barcelona this season

Barcelona sits at the top with four points so that their rivals are close to Real Madrid, a position that looked impossible as they entered November with five points behind Los Blancos. Midfielder Fermin Lopez identified it as a turning point in their season, however.
The Catalan giants have had an inconsistent season, with their defense struggling to match last season, and the absence of Inigo Martinez is being felt more and more. However, in recent weeks, Barcelona have appeared to be stable and close to the team that won La Liga last year.
Fermin Lopez highlights the turning point
The 22-year-old explained to Sport in an interview that it was precisely El Clasico, when Real Madrid opened that gap, and a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea several games later, that helped Barcelona progress.
“Losing El Clasico and London changed the score for the team. In the end, these are games you can’t lose, and it’s true that we weren’t as good as we usually are, but since then the team has taken a step forward, returning to the form we had last year. We are in a very good form and we hope it will continue until the end.”
Regarding the explanation of Barcelona’s inconsistency in the season, Lopez was of the opinion that it forms the natural course of the season.
“You can’t always be at your best… Yes we try, and that’s what we want, but there’s always a game where you’re not at your best, or things don’t go your way. Look at last year in November. We had a difficult situation when we didn’t play well, but we ended up winning La Liga, the Copa, and the whole Super Cup, but these things are important to stay together. Back.”
Fermin’s personal development
The Spaniard is also facing a battle for his place in the team. Dani Olmo has been profiled as Fermin’s main challenger at No.10, but now Raphinha has played inside recently. He feels like he’s grown up in the last year though.
“Personally, I think I have matured. I am still young and have a lot to face, but life moves so fast that I think I have had to mature before the appointed time, and the former Fermín has changed because of that maturity.”

“It’s difficult because everything happens very quickly and there are many things that happen… It’s not that you don’t appreciate it, but you don’t have time to appreciate it because you don’t stop thinking about what happened to you and what you achieve. Sometimes, when I’m at home, I think about what happened and realize that I’ve achieved my dream.”
Fermin’s favorite moment from his Barcelona career
Even though looking at how he got there is difficult, Lopez held one memory very well.
“One day I was very happy to be in the meeting [trophy] the exhibition. For me… I can’t even explain it. I went crazy, I couldn’t stop singing, jumping… I saw people crying, so happy to win three titles after years without winning so many. And honestly, it was one of the best moments of 2025, without a doubt. “
