Anthony Joshua’s driver charged in Nigeria car crash that killed two – National

Nigerian authorities have charged Anthony Joshua’s driver following a car accident that injured the Nigerian boxer and killed two of his entourage.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46 years, has been charged at the Sagamu Magistrate’s Court today,” Ogun State Police Command said in a statement on social media, adding that the case has been adjourned to January 20.

Kayode faces four charges – causing death by dangerous driving, careless driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s license – the BBC reports.

Joshua, 36, was involved in a fatal road accident near Lagos on December 29, 2025, which killed two of his close colleagues and members of the group, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Ghami, after the car they were traveling in collided with a truck parked on the highway.

The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement on X said Joshua was released on Wednesday afternoon after he was found to be ready to recover “at home.”

“Anthony and his mother were at a funeral in Lagos this afternoon to pay their last respects to two of his late friends as they were being prepared for repatriation this evening,” Omotoso said.

Hearn paid tribute to the two victims on Instagram, writing, “Rest in peace Latz and Sina. Your strength and honesty among many other good qualities will be deeply missed. Praying for strength and guidance for all their family, friends and AJ during this very difficult time.”

Nigeria is the country of Joshua’s parents. Joshua recently knocked out boxer-turned-YouTuber Jake Paul in Round 6 of their heavyweight fight on December 19 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, breaking the YouTuber’s jaw in the process.

With the victory, Joshua can regain the heavyweight title he lost against Oleksandr Usyk.
