How to watch the Golden Globes live without cable
Thanks to a five-year deal that was sealed last year between the Golden Globe Awards and CBS, the awards show will be broadcast live on the network. If you don’t have cable, however, you’ll be able to stream the show live Paramount+ Premium only. The Paramount+ Essential plan will only get you access to essential streams the day after the awards broadcast.
Mashable Top Stories
Paramount+ Premium will run you $12.99 per month, while Paramount+ Essential is just $7.99 per month.
Another option? Subscribe to a live TV streaming service like YouTube TV or Fubo. These services offer live streaming of local stations, including CBS, so you can catch the broadcast as it happens. They are more expensive than Paramount+, but they offer free trials when you just sign up.
Is there a free trial of Paramount+?
Yes, for now. Paramount+ offers free seven-day trial for newborns in both Essential and Premium categories (until Jan. 15). So, technically, if you haven’t subscribed to Paramount+ before, you can sign up for a week-long trial of the Premium tier and watch the Golden Globes for free during that time. Just remember to cancel your subscription before the trial ends if you want to avoid charges.
Not eligible for a free trial? We’ve also found a few unique ways to save money on subscriptions. Check out Paramount+’s best streaming deals below.
The best Paramount+ streaming deals
The best deal to watch live: Save 23% on an annual subscription to Paramount+ Premium
$119.99/year (save $35.89)
If you want to catch the Golden Globe Awards live, you’ll need the Paramount+ Premium plan, which costs $12.99 per month. However, you can save 23% if you choose the annual plan for $119.99 instead. That brings the monthly cost down to $10 instead of $12.99. You’ll have to pay more upfront, but you’ll also get more bang for your buck. In addition to live streaming, you’ll also get access to Showtime originals and movies (like Yellowjackets again A curse) and live performances. Not to mention, you’ll be locked into that price for a year, meaning you’ll avoid the price hike scheduled for Jan. 15.
Best deal to watch later: Save 38% on an annual subscription to Paramount+ Essential
If you don’t mind watching the awards show after you play (and avoid spoilers), you can sign up for Paramount+ Essential for $7.99 for one month. You will be able to catch the broadcast on demand the day after it goes live. Just remember to cancel before your month ends if you want to avoid extra monthly fees. Do you want to stay and save some money? Choose an annual plan and save 38% on your subscription. It will run you just $59.99 a year, down to $5 a month instead of the usual $7.99. That’s like getting 12 months less than eight.
Best student deal: Save 50% on Paramount+ Premium
College students can get a monthly subscription to Paramount+ Premium for just $6.49 a month, as long as they can verify their student status using SheerID. Once confirmed, student discounts apply to your first 12 months. After 12 months, you will be charged the regular monthly Premium subscription price.
Best third-party deal: Get Paramount+ for free with a Walmart+ membership
30-day free trial, then $98/year
It may not be the easiest way to look, but a Walmart+ membership gives you free access to Paramount+ Essentials and plenty of other cool benefits. Even better, you can start things off with a 30-day free trial, so you can enjoy a whole month of streaming without paying a cent. Just make sure you cancel before your trial ends if you want to avoid charges. If you want to keep your Walmart+ membership going, it will cost you $12.95 per month or $98 per year ($8.17/month). As we noted above, Paramount+ Essential will only get you access to the most in-demand broadcasts the day after the Golden Globes air.
Live TV streaming services have free trials
If you want to catch the Golden Globe Awards live and for free, but don’t qualify for the Paramount+ trial, you can also try live TV streaming services. YouTube TV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, and DirecTV Stream are all broadcasters that offer CBS live in their channel lineups — and all four offer free trials for newcomers.
The best live TV streaming service
10-day free trial, then $59.99/month for three months
YouTube TV is our top pick, because it not only offers newbies a 21-day trial period, but also an introductory rate of $59.99 per month for your first two months. After that, it will jump to $82.99 per month. In addition to watching the Golden Globes live on CBS, YouTube TV offers a list of more than 100 live channels that will make you forget everything about cable. The best part is that there are no hidden fees or contracts involved. Pay what you want and cancel whenever you choose. If you want to avoid charges, make sure to cancel your subscription before the trial period ends.
