The former “Look“Co-host Sherri Shepherd expressed support for her friend and former panelist Jenny McCarthy’s recent comments about her time on the daytime talk show. During the “Katie Miller Podcast” on Tuesday, McCarthy said she would only return to “The View” “over my dead body.”
In an exclusive clip from Entertainment Weekly’s Thursday episode of “Sherri,” Shepherd said “everything Jenny said is absolutely true,” supporting McCarthy’s assertion that while both were hired to make the show light and non-discriminatory, the focus quickly turned to politics.
“It’s no secret that Jenny McCarthy hates being on The View,” Shepherd said in a clip for Entertainment Weekly. “I remember the day they switched to politics, Jenny walked into my dressing room just like that. She said, ‘Sherri, oh my God, what am I going to do?’ And I looked at him, I said, ‘What are you going to do? What are we going to do!'”

McCarthy, who appeared to be one of the producers of the show Season 17, said that he will not return to the talk show even though he asked the actor who was a Playboy model to come back to meet.
“They asked me to come back, like the reunion shows,” she said during an appearance on “The Katie Miller Podcast.” “I thought, on top of my dead body, I will step on that place.”
McCarthy said he was brought to “The View” in 2013 to help make the show less polarizing.
“The reason why they wanted to replace me is because they said it was very divisive,” he explained. “They thought it was too polarizing at the time, you guys.”

“Well, that took a week. That took a whole week,” she said. “And at that time I didn’t see myself as a politician, that’s why I thought I was the perfect person for this job. A week later, when they said they wanted to enter politics, I said, ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do?’

After this sudden shift from light entertainment to serious political analysis, Shepherd said he “felt bad for my friend, because they brought him – they brought him on the show after a lot of groups focused on wanting less political fighting. They wanted it to be cooler and more fun.”
According to Shepherd, shortly after the focus group expressed that they wanted the program to be simpler and less political, “the focus groups changed their mind about putting politics back into the game.
“Two weeks later, they had a girl wearing glasses, and I looked over and said, ‘What’s with you wearing glasses?’ She was like, ‘Sherri, they want me to look like I know politics,'” she recalls. “I was sitting there and I said, ‘How old-fashioned is Playmate of the Year?’ They were trying to make Jenny look conservative, but she looked like an attractive librarian. “

Echoing the same words as McCarthy, Shepherd who joined The View in 2007, said “he has the same problem as Jenny, because when I came to this show they were looking for someone who was simple, they were looking for someone who was a mother, who talked about being alone, being a mother, it was supposed to be easy.
“But then, Barack Obama ran for president, and politics was something we talked about,” he said.

According to Shepherd, former host Barbara Walters once told her to “read a book,” adding that, at first, she found it difficult to get used to talking about politics – something she says she was protected from because of her religious upbringing.

“Even though it was hard for me, I had the best time on The View. It was one of the best, hardest, scariest, and most emotional experiences, but I loved it, and I’m lifelong friends with the women I sat at that table with,” Shepherd told Entertainment Weekly.
