The Minnesota National Guard will wear yellow vests for ICE protests

I Minnesota National Guard posted a picture on social media on Saturday showing what they will wear if they are activated, to “separate[selves] in other agencies,” as they sit in wait amid intense anti-ICE protests.

“Members of the Minnesota National Guard are on standby, ready to assist local law enforcement and public safety agencies. When our members are activated, they will be wearing reflective vests, as shown here, to help distinguish them from other agencies wearing similar clothing,” the Minnesota National Guard wrote in this post.

The faces of the members of the guard were blurred, and they were seen wearing bright yellow vests over their uniforms.

The Minnesota National Guard added its members “live, work, and serve in our state, and are dedicated to protecting life, preserving property, and ensuring Minnesotans can safely exercise their First Amendment rights.”

Guards have not been assigned to city streets, but are ready to help support public safety, according to officials.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety announced earlier Saturday that, at the behest of Gov. Tim Walz, the guards are gathered together to support local law enforcement and emergency management structures.

Several conservative protesters were seen on video being beaten by counter-protesters at the time anti-immigration protests on Saturday.

Tensions flared earlier this month after Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot and killed on January 7 by an ICE agent while blocking an operation in Minneapolis and driving toward the agent.

After the incident, Democratic officials, including Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, encouraged anti-ICE protesters to unite, is being investigated by federal prosecutors for allegedly obstructing law enforcement efforts.

US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox News on Friday that Democrats’ anti-ICE rhetoric it may escalate to crime.

“When the governor or the mayor threatens our officers, when the mayor suggests that they encourage citizens to call 911 when they see ICE officers, that’s very close to federal crime,” Blanche said.

Sources said the investigation is in its early stages, and it is not clear whether it will lead to criminal charges.
