White House backs GOP impeachment efforts against ‘corrupt’ federal judges

FIRST ON FOX: The White House is fully supporting efforts on Capitol Hill to censure federal justices who have “gone wrong” with partisan decisions, Fox News Digital said.
A White House official told Fox News Digital that the administration is closely monitoring the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation into US district judges James Boasberg, of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, and Deborah Boardman, of the US District Court in Maryland, as Republican lawmakers openly discuss what they call “activism”.
“Left-wing judges, activist judges have behaved badly,” a White House official told Fox News Digital. “They are undermining the law to serve their own agenda. It must be stopped. And the White House fully welcomes efforts to impeach.”
The White House official went on to say that President Donald Trump must be able to “legally implement the agenda that the American people elected him to,” arguing that the justices have once again issued unanimous decisions, abused their offices and abandoned their claim to impartiality.

Federal judges can be impeached when the House approves articles of misconduct or abuse of office, and removal will be confirmed after conviction by a two-thirds vote of the Senate.
Boasberg has become a key point of reference for Republicans on a number of decisions related to Trump-era immigration policies — including cases involving the transfer of migrants to El Salvador and other countries rather than keeping them in US custody.
Recently, he has found new GOP friction after reports surfaced that he authorized warrants in the former Jack Smith “Arctic Frost” investigation that allowed investigators to seize phone records connected to certain Republican lawmakers.
He first faced impeachment in March 2025 for preventing the administration from deporting illegal immigrants under the Alien Enemies Act, and again in November for the Arctic Frost ruling.
A White House official told Fox Digital that Boasberg has a history of “clearly illegal” issuance while pointing to the warrants and subpoenas he authorized in the Arctic Frost investigation.

NEW TRUMP-LINKED LAWSUIT PUTS BOASBERG BACK IN GOP CROSSHAIRS
Boardman is facing calls for him to be impeached over his sentencing of a man found guilty of attempted murder of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The suspect was sentenced to eight years of the recommended term of 30 years.
Sen. Ted CruzR-Texas, is among the Republican lawmakers who want Boasberg and Boardman to be prosecuted. He testified that they “meet the constitutional standard for impeachment” during a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing in early January, calling both “corrupt judges.”
The White House argued that federal judges who develop a record of issuing harsh, apparently illegal decisions to promote or undermine a political party are losing their impartiality, abusing their authority and impeachment.

Both judges have avoided public comment on impeachment talk, declining a Senate invitation to testify on Jan. 7.
House Speaker Mike Johnson reiterated his support for “corrupt” judges on Wednesday.
“I think some of these judges have stepped outside the bounds of where they are supposed to serve,” Johnson said at his weekly press conference. “It wouldn’t be a bad thing for Congress to legislate in my opinion.”

These comments stem from his comments in 2025, where he said impeachment was not an effective tool against judges who were considered activists working against the Trump administration.
“Look, impeachment is never off the table if it’s appropriate. But in our system — we’ve had 15 federal judges impeached in the entire history of the country — I mean, there may be one that I feel is appropriate, but you’ve got to get votes for it. And it’s a huge burden,” Johnson said in May 2025.

“Basically, the bar is high crimes and misdemeanors. I mean, the last federal judge indicted, I think he was caught … taking cash from an envelope. You know, it has to be a serious crime or a really open crime that everybody would agree to.”
Democrats opposed Republican calls for impeachment, including Senate Judiciary Committee member Sheldon Whitehouse in response to Cruz’s comments about criticizing judges in a letter he wrote to Johnson on Wednesday.

“The pattern is clear: judges rule against the Administration; the President or his allies attack and spread false information; judges and their families receive threats, ‘swiping’ efforts, and threats like pizzas in the name of the son of a federal judge who was killed. The DOJ has repeatedly refused to assure us that it is investigating a pattern of possible orchestration threats. These baseless calls only add to the crisis facing the judges who are facing this crisis. those they love,” Whitehouse wrote in her letter to Johnson.
