‘Spider-Man’ Director Sam Raimi Would Like To Take On Batman

Years after establishing himself as one of the best directors out there, Sam Raimi made two of the greatest superhero films of all time, Spider Man again Spider-Man 2. Years later, he found himself back in that world for a sequel but a happy one, Doctor Strange in Various Madness Circles. Simply put, the man knows his way around a cap and a cow. And yet, even though he’s already made three movies about comic book heroes, there’s at least one big one he’d like to tackle.
“I love Batman,” Raimi told MovieWeb. “I tried to make a Batman movie. I couldn’t get the rights.”
Can you imagine a Sam Raimi Batman movie? Kinetic action, live camera, Bat-shit madness (pun intended)?
In the same interview, Raimi went on to discuss other characters he would like to play. “I love Shadow,” Raimi continued. “I couldn’t get the rights to that one either. But, uh, Superman has always been one of my favorites. Yes, there are so many DC characters that I love, and the writers just have to come up with an original story based on their character, that’s true to the character and part of their real universe, not something that disappoints the fans of the best character and brings out the best love in the fans of a certain time, but it brings out the fans of the best character. those characters and their right conflicts, or right challenges of a proper hero If it was a story with a real journey of that person I would like to make a movie.
Raimi also talked about his desire to make more superhero movies in a recent Reddit AMA. When a fan asked, “What would be your biggest criticism of superhero movies made today?” Raimi replied, “That they don’t give me some of them!”
Back to Batman, anyway. It’s a bit confusing when Raimi says he couldn’t get the rights. Apparently, the rights to DC, controlled by Warner Bros. “Couldn’t” sounds like the wrong word. You’re probably saying that Warner Bros. and DC, whenever this was, weren’t interested in making a Batman movie.
When you look at the history of Batman movies combined with Raimi’s work, it just feels like the timing has never been right. He could have approached Warner Bros. before 1989, but Raimi was still a newcomer, so you find it doesn’t work. Tim Burton got the job. It was also possible between 1997 and 2005, before Christopher Nolan’s films, but that’s when Raimi was very busy Spider Man movies. Finally, he was able to watch it between 2012 and 2016 when Zack Snyder took over. But, that’s fine between Raimi and the director in prison after the tragedy that happened Oz: The Great and Powerful. At all other times, Batman was talked about.
So, for us, Sam Raimi not making a Batman movie feels less like he couldn’t get the rights and it’s like the rights weren’t playing at the time. But never say never. Maybe if Andy Muschietti can do it The Brave and the Boldcurrent DC Studios president James Gunn has the perfect person on speed dial.
Raimi’s next film, Send Helpin theaters January 30.
