Steven McBee says his family has been “targeted” by federal prosecutors and is now seeking a presidential pardon for his father Steve McBee Sr., calling the case “honorable prosecution at its highest level.”
Questions about the possible pardon – and whether it is legal – have dogged the family publicly.
“It’s a legitimate thing,” McBee said on the “Like a Farmer” podcast. “Obviously there are a lot of steps involved in applying for a pardon. You put all the paperwork together.”

He went on to explain, “There’s quite a process of getting all the paperwork ready to go, and then publicly spreading awareness of what you’re trying to do – the immediate situation – and what he’s going through, and what our farm went through, which was a targeted attack on a family farm. It was a medal prosecution.”
McBee’s father was sentenced to two years in federal prison for his involvement in a multi-million dollar crop insurance fraud scheme. He is serving time at the Federal Penitentiary in Yankton, South Dakota.

McBee went on to share details about the forgiveness process on the podcast, saying that navigating the steps was difficult but necessary.
“So, you’re trying to bring awareness to it, and you’re trying to get it into the hands of the right people who are connected. … You just connect your way through the political spectrum and try to work your way up to the right people to hear it,” he explained. “And it’s still hard. I mean, we’re still going through that, and we’re not hiding anything.”
