Virginia didn’t vote left, but that’s what Spanberger brings

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger was sworn in just weeks ago, but a whirlwind of bad policy is already swirling around her state.
Spanberger’s first order of business was to reverse Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 47, which had allowed cooperation between Virginia state police and the Department of Corrections and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That connection was important because it allowed state governments to work together to remove people from the country illegally who had committed other crimes. That it was necessary for Spanberger to make it harder to deport criminals meant that his centrist campaign would translate to a leftist administration.
Spanberger is not alone in moving Virginia to the left. Both branches of the state legislature are now also controlled by Democrats, and they are introducing policies that no one campaigned on. House bill 863 would reduce the minimum sentence for rape, murder and child pornography. When Spanberger ran to say “let the rapists go free,” Virginia voters somehow missed it. In fact, Spanberger’s campaign ads highlighted his law enforcement experience and that he is a moderate who works with both sides of politics.
I’M THE NEW GOVERNOR OF VIRGINIA AND THAT’S WHAT EVERYONE NEEDS
Many other bills would have raised various taxes and countered the “affordability” message that Spanberger campaigned on. One would increase the sales tax on services like dry cleaning, another would add a tax on deliveries from Amazon and Uber Eats. Spanberger also noted that he would rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which would likely make energy bills higher.
Then there’s House Bill 1442, which would prohibit any immigration enforcement near polling places. We are told that it is rare for illegal immigrants to vote in our elections but the Virginia legislature thinks that a law like this is very important to the state. Why would immigration enforcement interfere with polling places unless there are illegal immigrants voting at those polling places?
Then there’s the riots by the Democrats at the Virginia Military Institute. VMI is a highly regarded military college with some notable faculty, such as United Nations Ambassador Mike Waltz and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine. The House of Delegates introduced a resolution to form a panel to determine whether VMI should continue to receive state funding. They are also politicizing the school board.

Spanberger appointed former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, best known for taking a photo in blackface while in medical school, to VMI’s Board of Visitors. Northam will be replacing Garrett Exner, who was appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin. Exner was not given a hearing and asked no questions before being replaced. In his X page, Exner quoted Senator Scott Surovell as saying, there are “real concerns about the qualifications, backgrounds, and intentions,” of Youngkin’s nominees. Exner pointed out: “Mr. Surovell is not a veteran. He has never served. He has never prepared young men and women to serve the nation. I have dedicated my life to serving this country and helping the next generation of leaders succeed. I would like to know what part of my background Mr. Surovell is getting, ‘regarding.'”

No real worries, of course. Exner told me that VMI “is the latest target of the Democrats’ attack on American institutions. The school, with its strict honor code and dedication to meritocracy, is directly opposed to the new ideas of the Democratic Party – socialism and equality.”
Democrats will spend the next four years moving Virginia as far to the left as possible – unless Virginians stop them. Virginians who want to save their state must continue to point out that Spanberger the candidate is not Spanberger the governor, and that a state government fully controlled by the Democratic Alliance is turning lawlessness and social engineering into policy. Virginia can be saved from this, before it becomes another failed green state with residents running for the door, but they need to act fast.
