NFL News: Tommy DeVito gives an inside look at Mike Vrabel’s Patriots message before the Super Bowl

The New England Patriots are on their way to the 12th Super Bowl in franchise history, but only a handful of players on this year’s roster have experienced the “big game” in their careers.
Good thing they have a coach who knows a thing or two about what it takes to win.
Mike Vrabel had a dream first year coaching his former team that helped him win three Super Bowls in the early 2000s. His leadership, along with his entire coaching staff, has been instrumental in turning a four-win team over the past two NFL seasons into a team worthy enough to reach the top of the game again.

So, what exactly is the message Vrabel has for the Patriots as they prepare for the Seattle Seahawks next week?
“We’re going to the Super Bowl to win the Super Bowl,” backup quarterback Tommy DeVito told Fox News Digital, while discussing his partnership with Progressive. “That’s it. We don’t just say, ‘Oh, we made it to the Super Bowl. That’s cool.’ No, we are going there to win it.”
Going from a four-win team last year to the AFC champions is a jump for any franchise, but to no one’s surprise Vrabel isn’t satisfied with that victory. He wants to win it all, and so does the whole team.
PATRIOTS COACH MIKE VRABEL RECOGNIZES THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTION TO HIS MALE ANATOMY TO WIN A SUPER BOWL
Only five players – Carlton Davis III, Christian Elliss, Mack Hollins, Austin Hooper and Milton Williams – have experienced a Super Bowl in their careers. Everyone else on the Patriots roster is hungry to reach their first rings, including DeVito.
“As everyone wants to be in that game, they want to be on the winning side of it. That side I’m sure won’t be very fun after that,” he said.
DeVito’s season began on the New York Giants’ roster, where he became a fan favorite after needing to step up in 2023 and 2024 due to injury-plagued Daniel Jones. He joined the Patriots’ quarterbacks room after the Giants loaded up with rookie additions Jaxson Dart, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
While in his native New Jersey — the Giants’ home is in the same parking lot as MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford — DeVito understood the pedigree of the Super Bowl-winning franchise. But even with two of those Vince Lombardi Trophies in the hallway the Patriots were winning, there’s more hardware in Foxborough.

And those did not come easily.
That word, “easy,” is one that has been thrown around for this year’s Patriots return to the Super Bowl. Yes, their regular season power of play was near the bottom of the league (30th), but their run to the NFL Playoffs never was. The Patriots faced three of the league’s top five defenses, including their AFC Championship game against the No. 1 seed Denver Broncos. 1 on the way.
DeVito admitted that the team sees talk of how people believe the Patriots have had an easy road so far, but he thinks they’re wrong.
“Everything revolves around your phone, whether you’re scrolling through cars, watches, or dogs, or anything else, you’re going to see Patriots-something at some point. Back home when we played the Texans, all the analysts, reporters — everybody picked the Texans to win. It’s like, OK, if we have a schedule to beat them it’s easy?” DeVito asked.

“People think it’s too easy, but not every team has to play Josh Allen twice and almost get to the third team. And then going on the road, I think they said it was the first time we went 9-0 on the road. Playing on the road is not easy, no matter what. No matter who the opponent is, the environment is hostile, it’s a new climate, even if the NFL wins, especially many times on the road. like us.”
In the end, no matter how tough or easy the opponents were, the Patriots are back where the franchise expected them to be with Vrabel at the helm. Now, it comes to one more game, one that Vrabel knows requires focus, effort and camaraderie.

“It doesn’t matter what happened in the game, who played, or whatever. As long as that column says 1-0 after that week, that’s all that matters,” DeVito said.
The Patriots will try to go 1-0 for the last time on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium.

DeVito sees himself as the Patriots’ last backup, but he’s also one off the field.
As part of the Progressive’s Backup campaign, DeVito surprised one, well, unlucky fan who had a football penalty of setting up a lemonade stand in the cold Boston area for a day.
DeVito showed and marveled at the brutality of football, and even though it was a cold night after the snow that fell when the Patriots beat the Broncos, he sold out the product.

“It was great,” DeVito said of the Boston night. “We were having a lot of fun and we got a lot of great content out of it, as well as other viewers who probably didn’t know what was going on. But they got lemonade in five-degree weather. So, we made it work.
“Progressive has been great so far. It’s been a lot of fun working with them.”
