TUCSON, Ariz. – Friday night’s dramatic search of a home in Rio Rico, Arizona, just north of the border with Mexico, marked the first in the investigation into missing Nancy Guthrie without a family member’s belongings.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI conducted a court-ordered search of the desert home of about 20,000 people, where one person, Carlos Palazuelos, lived. Palazuelos was pulled over and briefly detained for questioning.
A few hours later, on Wednesday morning, investigators went to the scene.
As of Tuesday night, the only places being searched were those of Nancy Guthrie and her oldest daughter, Annie.

Authorities searched Nancy’s home on Sunday, February 1, after it was reported that she had not attended a weekly group meeting where she used to watch a live church service with acquaintances.
In the evening hours of Friday, February 6, the FBI returned to Nancy’s home, removed the media and searched the premises, including the roof.
A Fox News drone filmed an agent appearing to remove a white cylindrical device from a ledge facing a yard in the area. Authorities later pulled a blue SUV from Guthrie’s garage and towed it to the impound lot.

Annie Guthrie’s home was also searched twice, once on Wednesday, Feb. 4, three days in the investigation, again on Saturday Feb. 7.
Authorities also visited the home briefly on Feb. 6, at the same time as the second search of Nancy’s property. They briefly looked at the courtyard at the side of the building, then left.
The February 7 search, which NBC’s Tom Winters reported was “sanctioned,” was intense. The detectives entered the house with a white suitcase and a brown bag, and stayed in this place from around 8:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.

Authorities also conducted extensive searches at both Nancy’s and Annie’s residences. The latest campaign effort took place Tuesday evening, as the FBI went door-to-door on Annie’s property.
The effort came on the heels of the first major review in the case.
