US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, saying President Donald Trump “wants a solution that ends the bloodshed once and for all.”
“Met with the President of Ukraine @ZelenskyyUa about Ukraine’s security and strengthening defense and economic ties,” Rubio wrote in an X post where he shared a photo of himself shaking hands with the Ukrainian leader. “President Trump wants a solution that ends the bloodshed once and for all.”
Earlier on Saturday, Zelenskyy revealed that he had spoken with Rubio and Trump delegate Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner before the trilateral talks in Geneva, which he said his government expects to “really produce.”
“I had a conversation with President Trump’s delegates @stevewitkoff and @JaredKushner, before the trilateral meetings in Geneva,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. “We hope the meetings will be really productive.”

Zelenskyy said they also discussed “other events following the meetings in Abu Dhabi, held at the end of last month and at the beginning of this month.”
“Not everything can be shared over the phone, and our negotiating team will present the situation in Ukraine next week,” the Ukrainian president said.
After the talks in Abu Dhabi, Zelenskyy told reporters that the US had set a June deadline for Moscow and Kyiv to sign a peace agreement.
“The Americans are proposing that the parties end the war early this summer and will probably put pressure on the parties to comply with this plan,” Zelenskyy said at the time, according to the Associated Press.

Zelenskyy added at the time that if the June deadline was not met, the Trump administration would likely put pressure on Moscow and Kyiv to meet.
On Saturday, he again thanked the US for a “constructive approach” to ending the war.
“We are very grateful that America always maintains a constructive approach and is ready to help protect lives,” Zelenskyy wrote. I thank President Trump, his team, and the people of the United States for their support.
Rubio on Saturday also said that he discussed peace between Ukraine and Russia at the Munich Security Conference with his G7 colleagues.
