Supernatural it’s among the fewest shows to reach 15 seasons, and among shows of the genre, it’s the longest-running of all. As the Winchester brothers, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) were at the forefront of almost every episode, but they weren’t alone. With them from humble beginnings, trying to find the demon that killed their mother, until the end, when they fought with God, Chevy Impala: Baby of 1967.
In the thick and thin, things, ghosts, wendigos, angels, and the Devil himself, Dean’s Impala was there, that’s why, it takes the main place in 2011 “Baby.” When fans heard that the entire episode would be shot inside the Impala, they didn’t know what to expect, but the Impala team. Supernatural turned the old “bottleneck” episode into one of the best shows of the entire game.
The Impala Child is the Third Supernatural Leader
From the moment “Baby” starts, you know it’s going to be a different kind of episode. The classic iteration begins in 1967 with pictures of the Chevy plant that included Impalas. It fast forwards to the present, as Dean and Sam give it a good wash before a road trip to investigate another case, and that’s when you realize that each camera shot is from Baby’s point of view. This leads to some unique angles on the dash and side mirrors, and later, a shot from the roof of the car as the boys settle in for the night.
Every inch of the Impala helps down Supernatural the episode just when the series starts to go off track. Admittedly, “grounded” is a bit of a stretch for the passage where the word “were-pire” is used. The real monster of the episode, Nachzeher, feels like a throwback to the early seasons, and how it’s ultimately defeated, with a series of small gains for various passengers on Baby over the course of the episode, is classic. Supernatural.
Back To Basics Monster Of The Week
The meat of the episode, Sam and Dean traveling together, also gives the brothers time to connect and establish their relationship. For many years, it was the center of this series, but over 10 seasons, much was left unsaid, and a gap began to appear between the two as fans had to endure many episodes that separated them, or worse, pitted them against each other. In “Baby,” the two get a chance to sit down, talk, and reconnect. It’s a quiet scene where the camera moves from close-up to close-up, but it’s what helps make the episode great, especially for long-time fans who enjoy every moment with the couple.
Just as the dramatic side of their relationship helps drive Supernatural forward, there is also a complete goofball side to each of the brothers, and the actors behind the scenes. Goofs and bloopers in the series get more views than amazing moments on social media. Dean from “Night Moves” by Bob Seger and sings in one of the moments that make fans wonder what Jensen did between taking and writing it, because of course it’s the kind of offbeat, corny jokes and fraternal chemistry the stars have shown on the screen for more than a decade.
Turning the Bottleneck Episode Format on Its Head
“Baby” became a hit during its run, beating the classic “monster of the week.” Supernatural chemistry, and a few nods to the last big story arc of the series. Bottle patches are often made as a cost-cutting measure, such as being open Agents of SHIELD or Stargate SG-1but the unique hook of filming the car in full and close-up makes “The Kid” look and feel different from all the other episodes. A talented production team turned a budget-saving gimmick into a new way to create, shoot, and present a show that has been on the air for over a decade.
Supernatural it may have gone too far in the story it was trying to tell, but for any show that’s going to run for 15 seasons and develop a passionate fan base, which, after the years it’s been owned, is still growing. “Baby” is a great example of why the show became such a hit and how self-imposed limits can lead to new levels of creativity.
