Joanna Cassidy talked about her relationship with Alan Hamel during a recent podcast appearance.
In a recent interview on the “Still Here Podcast with Steve Kmetko,” the 80-year-old actor opened up about his current relationship after the host asked if he was seeing anyone.
“Well, I’m dating someone,” she said. “She’s actually a widow, and it’s really interesting because I haven’t dated in a long time. I just, honestly, I don’t know, it never came into my life and Lord knows I’m there.”
She went on to say that this person she “always wanted” to meet and started dating her new man after meeting him “a year ago, and it’s going well.”

When asked to share more about who her new man is, Cassidy initially tried to keep it a secret, saying, “I’m very private,” before admitting, “his name is Alan Hamel, who was married to Suzanne Somers for many years.
Hamel and Somers were together for 55 years, and married for 46 years, before the “Three’s Company” actress died in October 2023, after a battle with breast cancer.
Somers and Cassidy worked together on three episodes of the 1985 ABC miniseries, “Hollywood Wives,” but when asked if that made dating his widow difficult, Cassidy explained, “Absolutely not, not for me.”
Cassidy was previously married to Dr. Kennard C. Kobrin, psychiatrist, with whom she had two children, for 10 years, from 1964 to 1974.

Although Cassidy has not spoken publicly about her relationship with Hamel in the past, she previously opened up about their romance in an interview with Page Six in June 2025. She told the outlet at the time that she met Cassidy 45 years ago when he was a guest on her show, adding, “We loved each other, not out of love, but mostly out of respect.”
“My son [from a previous marriage] met Joanna at the audition and, after a long conversation, suggested to Joanna that she and I would get along and that we should see each other,” Hamel said of their recent connection. “Stephen didn’t know we knew each other.”
Hamel also elaborated on his relationship with Cassidy in an interview with Fox News Digital in August 2025, saying that they had a good connection and “we spend a lot of time together, which is great.”
She explained that while it was “weird” to be back on the dating scene after Somers’ death, she knew it was what he wanted for her.

“He’s not Hollywood BS and we laugh a lot,” he said. “During Suzanne’s last few days, she told me twice ‘don’t move. Live your life. We’ll see each other after you pass.’ I am lucky to have Joanna in my life. Many men would love to have Joanna in their lives.”

For her part, Cassidy told Fox News Digital that the connection between her and Hamel was “natural,” adding, “I felt very comfortable. … I think our first date lasted three days.”
