President Donald Trump’s lengthy State of the Union address on Tuesday evening included a number of eye-catching moments that stole the show as the president proposed a national “transformation” in a speech that focused heavily on the economy.

Trump’s speech broke records, becoming the longest SOTU speech in modern history at nearly an hour and 48 minutes. It highlighted his administration’s efforts to lower taxes, reduce housing costs and close the border as he proposed to turn a new page for the nation.

Fox News Digital rounded up the top five moments of the speech, from the Democrat’s outburst to the emotional moments as Trump highlighted America’s heroism.

1. Al Green is out again

Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green was also ejected from a joint address after holding a sign that read, “Black people are not monkeys!”

Green held the sign as Trump walked to the podium Tuesday evening, and continued to hold the sign even after Trump began the speech.

Green has been seen in a heated back-and-forth with two House Republicans, Reps. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, and Pat Fallon, R-Texas, before he was pulled from the speech shortly after it began.

A longtime Texas lawmaker removed by the guards when Trump gave a joint address to Congress in 2025 after repeatedly interrupting the president by shouting and waving his cane. The outburst led the House to impeach Green, including 10 Democrats who joined the GOP on the March 2025 vote.

2. Chants of ‘USA’ erupt as the men’s hockey team is honored

Trump invited the men’s hockey team to a speech, just days after they won the gold medal against Canada at the Winter Olympics. The body erupted into chants of “USA” as the representatives of both teams stood to honor the Olympians.

The delegation filled the corridors of the room as Trump welcomed them as examples of American victory during his speech.

Hockey goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, in particular, received a hero’s welcome when Trump announced he would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Hellebuyck made 41 saves during the US vs. Canada game on Sunday, which helped keep the score tied 1-1, forcing overtime.

“I will soon be presenting Connor with our highest honor, which has been given to many athletes over the years,” Trump said. “But when I say many, not too many, like 12. It’s called the highest honor in our country. The Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

3. Trump scolds Dems: ‘You should be ashamed’

Trump’s speech included criticizing Democrats for voting against tax cuts under the “big, good bill,” exposing sky-high inflation problems under the Biden administration and allegedly worsening the housing crisis.

At one point, Trump took aim at Democrats’ lax immigration policies, asking lawmakers to stand up and affirm their belief that “the first job of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”

“One of the great things about the State of the Union is how it gives the American people a chance to see clearly what their representatives really believe,” Trump said. “So tonight, I invite all legislators to join my administration and reaffirm an important policy. If you agree with this statement, stand up and show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal immigrants.”

Republicans were seen standing and applauding, while Democrats remained seated, prompting Trump to admonish left-leaning lawmakers.

“Isn’t that a shame? You should be ashamed of yourself, don’t stand up,” Trump said. “That’s why I’m also asking you to eliminate dangerous cities that shelter criminals and issue severe punishments to government officials who prevent the removal of criminals from the neighborhood.”

“Most of the time, drug dealers do not kill in our country,” he said. “They are preventing the removal of these people from our country. And you should be ashamed of yourself.”

The speech has already prompted Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota to call out Trump, including that he “killed the American people.”

Trump spoke out against widespread fraud related to Minnesota’s Somali community, and how Democrats are “cutting all the money for the Department of Homeland Security,” which led Omar to call out Trump.

“They created another Democrat shutdown, the first one cost us two points in GDP, two points in GDP that we lost, which probably made them very happy,” Trump said. “Now they have shut down the organization responsible for protecting the American people from terrorists and murderers.”

Omar shouted, “You killed the Americans.” And he was heard saying, “You are a murderer.”

4. Trump respects military heroism

Trump honored several veterans of World War II on Tuesday, bringing a series of emotional moments throughout the evening.

In addition to announcing Hellebuyck’s upcoming Presidential Medal of Freedom, Trump honored two military pilots, a Coast Guard petty officer and two members of the National Guard on Tuesday evening.

Trump awarded the Medal of Honor to 100-year-old Navy aviator Royce Williams, a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.

“In 1952, Royce was on the legendary dogfight of a lifetime flying in hurricane-force weather when his squadron was attacked by seven Soviet fighter jets,” Trump said. “It was his first aerial combat of the war, and despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Royce led the downing of four enemy planes and nearly destroyed others, defeating his enemies while taking 263 bullets from his plane and being seriously wounded. His story was a secret for more than 50 years. He didn’t even want to tell his wife the legend, but the legend grew and grew.”

He also presented the Medal of Honor to Army Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover, who piloted an Army Chinook helicopter during the January operation that captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and was wounded by brutal fire.

Trump also recognized US Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe with a Purple Heart after Wolfe was attacked on the streets of Washington, DC, before Thanksgiving 2025. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was seriously injured in the same attack, and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskan received the Legion of Merit for extraordinary heroism after rescuing 165 people during the deadly Texas floods in July 2025. Trump reunited Ruskan with the 11-year-old girl he rescued in July 2025, Milly Cate McClymond.

“It was the first time I rescued Scott,” the president said, describing him as young, but brave. “He not only lifted Milly Cate, but 164 others to safety. People watched Scott from afar and couldn’t believe what they were seeing.”

“The winds were blowing, the rain was falling, everything was moving. And that fast water, no one had ever seen anything like it,” Trump continued. “Tonight, Scott and Milly Cate are together, /

5. A girl who almost died in a truck accident involving illegal immigrants was honored

Trump invited a wide range of guests to his speech, from everyday mothers to military veterans, as well as seven-year-old Dalilah Coleman.

Coleman nearly lost his life in 2024 in a multi-vehicle crash in California involving a tractor-trailer driven by an illegal immigrant.

“Dalilah Coleman was only five years old in June 2024, when an 18-wheel tractor trailer plowed into her parked car, going 60 miles an hour or more,” Trump said. “The driver was an illegal immigrant, who was approved by Joe Biden and was given a driver’s license by open borders, politicians and California.”

The Trump administration has cracked down on non-citizen truck drivers, tightening eligibility requirements for non-resident learner permits (CLPs) and driver’s licenses (CDL) by September 2025 and Trump signed an executive order in April requiring truck drivers to pass English proficiency tests.

The campaigns are aimed at increasing road safety.

Trump detailed the health triumphs the young girl has made since the horrific accident, calling her a “huge inspiration” and giving a shout-out to her father, Marcus Coleman, as “a wonderful man.”

“The doctors said that Dalilah would not be able to walk or talk, to be healthy. She would not even be able to eat again. But against all odds, she is now in the first grade, learning to walk. And she is here tonight with her father, Marcus,” said Trump, as GOP lawmakers applauded the little girl.
