The 29-year-old man accused of starting the devastating fire was indicted on two new charges this week after being indicted by a federal grand jury, the justice department said.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison, prosecutors said.

“The Federal Grand Jury that today put aside the residents of the Pacific Palisades of Los Angeles facing January 2025 At the moment it started to be the Alises fire,” said the attorney’s office.

Court documents state, “the mandatory rule that determined the wildland fire was ‘a HOLDOVE fire – a continuation of the Lachman fire that started on the morning of New Year’s Day 2025.’

“Law enforcement has determined – using witness statements, video surveillance, cell phone data, and analysis of fire intensity and patterns – that Randernecht set the fire in the Lachman owned by the Mountain,” said the attorney’s office. “A week later, the same fire — then known as the Palisades Fire — burned the organization’s property.”

Prosecutors said Rashudutor Rindennecht was working as Dec-40 31, 2024, and that the two passengers fired on a different trip about this that night told the law about the involvement that “disturbed and angry.”

“After dropping off a passenger in Pacific Palisades, Rindernecht – who has lived in that neighborhood – went to the Skull Rock Trailhead, got his iPhone, got his Trail, got his accorder. He got his Trail. Then he used things that were lit in the fire,” according to the attorney’s office.

“At 12:12 a.m. on January 1, 2025, environmental monitoring platforms indicated that the Lachman fire started,” it said. “During an interview with law enforcement on January 24, 2025, Rinternecht lied that he was near the fire on foot when he first saw him approach the fire from the fire as it grew rapidly.”
