Hadish Kebatu, who was mistakenly released from HMP Chelmsford, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police in Finsbury Park, North London, on Sunday morning following a massive manhunt.

An asylum seeker, who sexually assaulted a woman and a 14-year-old girl, was supposed to be sent to an immigration detention center for deportation, but was mistakenly released on Friday.

Essex Police said Kebatu, 41, boarded a London-bound train at Chelmsford at 12.41pm following a mistake.. He was then shown on CCTV inside the library in Dalston Square, East London, at 6pm that night as the Metropolitan Police recovered the bodies.

On Sunday morning, Kebatu was spotted at the bus stop by a member of the public, who called the police at 8.03AM. He was arrested at 8.19 am for trespassing.

On Monday, justice secretary David Lammy is expected to face questions in Parliament as he announces an independent inquiry into the incident. He told broadcasters on Sunday: “This man should have been in line for deportation and he shouldn’t have been ostracized, which was not going to happen.”

Mr Lammy also said that the migrant needed to be questioned by the police before being deported, adding: “I can assure you that he will be deported as it is expected to happen this week.”
