Marcos to push Philippine trade, technology agenda at APEC summit in South Korea

Philippine President Ferdinand R. The two-day meeting of leaders is expected to produce four important documents – the Leaders’ Declaration and three statements focusing on artificial intelligence, human transformation and cultural and cultural industries.
“These articles reflect the priorities that Korea has set for this year’s APEC and address economic issues in the entire region,” Ms. Escalona said.

The President is scheduled to meet with business leaders from key sectors and the Filipino community in Busan, home to more than 70,000 workers who work in manufacturing, agriculture, fishing, professional, entertainment and domestic work.
The trip follows a clarification from the Department of Finance (DOF) that the reported P28-billion official development loan (ODA) to South Korea is “not available.”
Ms. Escalona said the issue is “considered closed,” adding that “the Korean government has confirmed continued support for the development of cooperation with the Philippines.”
He asked if Mr. Marcos would introduce the South China Sea dispute with China, Ms. Escalona said this issue falls outside the mandate of APEC, which “facilitates trade and investment and promotes sustainable development.”
The country’s meetings with other leaders were still being finalized, he added.
Mr. Marcos was in Kuala Lumpur for 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Conference and related conferences Oct. 26 to 28. He also welcomed the entry into force of the second ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement, highlighting the possibility that it will increase market access and encourage cross-border trade and empower small businesses.
Mr Marcos called for closer cooperation with agriculture and sustainable development, highlighting New Zealand’s expertise in Agritech integration and the value-chain.
During the 5thth The Asean-Australia summit, confirmed the commitment of the Philippines to fully implement the Sect 2025-2029 plan, calling it “a Roadmap that includes trust and shares to resolve our comprehensive cooperation.”
