Utopia meets dystopia in ‘Pluribus,’ the latest Apple TV sci-fi sci-fi

What if the great problems that afflict humanity disappeared overnight – and there was no hunger, crime, discrimination, or discord? But what if the trade-off for all that goodness and anti-joy was mixed and creepy? That’s what the launchpad does A bulletThe new SCI-FI series for Apple TV, explodes from, with a complex protagonist in its dungeon.
A bullet the latest series from Vince Gilligan, who had started his writing career X files And he went on to become a producer and director on that show, then created one of his award-winning series: Violation is bad and Better call Saul. The opening season of A bullet The run is nine episodes (io9 watched the first seven for the purposes of this review), with the first airing today and weekly releases thereafter.
A bullet It takes references to each of Gilligan’s most popular titles. The setting is revisited by SACEACTION FICTION In that mind-boggling, emotionally surprising perspective X files way, but there is also Violation is bad and Better call SaulAnarchic, Sublert-the-System Energy, and Gillian’s signature sense of humor (WRY, dry, creative, and visual) pervades everything.
Dear Rhea (Better call Saul) stars as Carol Sturka, a successful author of “intelligible history” books (think The place outsidebut by Pirates) who secretly trample on his books and are ashamed of his followers. Carol is able to write about the “silly lump,” as she calls it, mainly because it undermines the comfortable lifestyle she shares with Helen (Miriam Shor), her partner in life and business.
As we learn about carol, A bullet He also alerts us to another group of characters: Scientists who have discovered something very unusual. The show occasionally uses screenplay to let you know exactly where we are in relation to a world-changing event.
If you want to go completely blind, here is a warning (however, note that we do not discuss any offers beyond the renewal event, which is written in the existing sales area, which offers all the following).
That event that changes the world: Something mysterious – in a real source that connects almost the entire human community in a single desire mind.
Think unity from Rick and morywithout live action, too A bullet It takes a believable and surprisingly lively approach to what such a situation might seem like to an outsider – namely Carol, who is unaffected by the outbreak. As the decline of humanity takes hold, it’s not unlike the opening scenes of a zombie movie, and Carol is left confused, scared and heartbroken.
There is widespread death and destruction at first, but the chaos soon dies down and there is a placid new normal. The affected, or “others,” as Carol came to call them, woke up with negative attitudes. They call themselves “we” (the first episode is called “we” we “), and since they share one consciousness, everyone knows everything about everything. Any person, even a small child, can perform open heart surgery or crash a plane. And they know absolutely every little thing about carol, thanks to their access to Helen’s mind and memories, and the surveillance drone they introduced to keep tabs on her at all times.
Others reassure Carol that there is nothing wrong, though there are Actively trying to figure out how to change him. Pulling gently, they put themselves in his barrel and the phone. Carol, who was already a salty soul before she hit this thing in the night – and who, you know, will have many other Sci-Fi movies that follow this exact plan, and It doesn’t end well-Look with sarcasm and anger.
There A bullet‘The first two episodes actually loaded a lot of ground, once we get past the initial upset that happened, the show finds its true groove. We meet the “writer of carol” who is beautiful and finds Zosia (Karolina Wydra), hand-picked for hilarious reasons we will not reveal here. Carol’s quest for collateral doesn’t help much, including the flamboyant diabé (Our flag means death‘S Samba Schutte). He’s actually happy as punch with Quo’s new situation, especially the part about suddenly having beautiful women take care of his every need.

There is also a distant manosos (Carlos-Manuel Vesga), who likes to be more involved with others than carol. Carol, at least, will pick up the phone when she needs shops restored or helps the swearing of the power of her hometown of Abuquerque – Gilligan’s magnificent place of private apocalypse, where realeal loneliness and deep loneliness play against the amazing natural beauty.
As the carol vacillates between boozy desperation, bursts of anger, ganore disorder, and the quest to dig up information from others – the past is a way of copying more than anything else- A bullet‘It’s a big balancing act. Carol’s life is messy. You are sad. Things weren’t great before, but they definitely ended the extreme decline after that. It would be so easy to donate and join the Crusade of others; It’s the path carol has, unlike billions of others around the world who become part of this without choice or warning.
But he also knows that giving up everything that makes him human, even his many undesirable qualities, means that he will no longer be human. And it’s something he doesn’t want to keep holding him back – or sometimes it becomes really human, it really absorbs him.
A bullet You already have a second season in the works, so there’s no telling what kind of resolution we’ll get when the batch of episodes is over. But it doesn’t matter what happens, it’s clear that Carol is the new hero of our times: Stubborn, compulsive, Cranky, and witty, funny, funny, funny, funny, funny, funny, funny, funny, beautiful, smart and roots. Not to mention, he’s determined to save a world that might seem too advanced – but he you know it is always a dystopia that is a bigger disaster than the one left behind.

A bullet‘The first two episodes are now streaming on Apple TV; Weekly releases follow.
