Dodger Pitcher Alex Vesia announces death of daughter

Los Angeles Dodger Pitcher Alex Vesia revealed on social media that his daughter Starling died in the last week of October.
“Our little angel we love you forever and you are always with us. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven on October 26 26.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.

The Dodgers announced Oct. 23 Relief Pitchers will be taking a leave of absence during the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Days. The statement did not specify why he had to take a break at that time but indicated that the team had a “bad heart.”

“It is with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is not with the team as he and his wife Kayla are dealing with personal family issues,” the statement said. “The entire Dodger organization sends our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update in the next day or so.”
The vesia players paid tribute to him during Game 3 of the World Series Oct.7, wearing his jersey number 51 on the side of their hats.
Dodger Pitcher Clayton Kershaw told reporters after the game about the decision to honor Vesia.

“It’s just something we talked about,” Kershaw said. “I’m new to the bullpen, but ves, he means a lot to all of us. And he was a big part of this team, a big part of that team. So, we wanted to do something to honor him.”
Vesia and Nkankosi Kayla previously announced that they were expecting a child in April.
