A new chapter in trucks has begun. WAABI, a leader in artificial intelligence, has unveiled a major milestone in truck autonomy, combining the waabi driver with the Volvo VNL Autonomous. Together, these technologies mark a major step forward in delivering an autonomous solution that is secure and supports broad commercial deployment.
This shared independent solution is unified and includes NVIDIA’s drive agx Thor and hyperion 10 architecture.

At the beginning of 2025, Volvo and Volvo solutions and Volvo independent announced a long-term cooperation to develop and deploy autonomous trucks.

“Self-driving is one of the first industries where we will see true AI become a reality,” said Rishi Dhall, Vice President of Automotive at Nvidia. “Our purpose-built platform complements the pioneers of end-to-end truck-to-metering, and will live on in VNL Autonomous. Level 4 Autonomy in the trucking space is now possible.”
Concerns and challenges facing AI-enabled trucks
Despite the excitement, driverless luggage faces real challenges. Safety is always a top concern as trucks encounter unpredictable weather, debris from pedestrians and human drivers. While the coverage could accommodate millions of events, regulators are still figuring out how to ensure national shipping systems.
The shift in evolution also raises economic questions. Volvo and Waabi have already completed the integration of the Waabi driver with Volvo VNL Automous.
