Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confronts ABC News Anchor George Stephanopoulos on Sunday for calling out the government’s 1995 shutdown of “terrorist” forces.
Stephanopoulos asked Stephanopos on Sunday “this week” about the Trump administration’s plan to end the ongoing government shutdown. Bustent reminded Stephanopoulos of his own experience managing a government shutdown when he served as an adviser to former President Bill Clinton.
“The best way to do it – and look, you were involved in a lot of them in the ’90s,” said Bessent. “And, you know, he basically called the terrorists the Republican forces and, he said it’s not a six-strong party, because now, we’re a five-way Democrat can cross the government and reopen the government. That’s the best way to do it, George.”

“I can’t argue with you about history there, but we don’t have a history lesson right now,” Stephanopoulos replied.
“No, no, no. George, George, George,” he interrupted. “If you want, I have all your quotes here. I got all your quotes here, George.”
Stephanopoulos said that BessENs views were a “bad design of history” and repeated his original question.

“Our plan was very simple. We could not fold, and we had to say that they ate the country to decide for the first time in their history to use terrorists, and they tried,” said Stephanopoulos.
