“If you survive a terrorist attack … you’re cut off from the rest of the world,” Denouveux said. “There are three stages in the flesh that must be done: Mourning for those who died, mourning for someone who was human … and mourning for the image that people have of you.”

The trial in 2021-2022 led to the conviction of the lone surviving member of the group that carried out the attack, Salah Abdesalam, who was sentenced to life in prison. The special court for drug poisoning also found the cases of 19 other people involved.

“After ten years, when I tell a stranger: ‘I’m at the bataclan,’ the person’s perception changes immediately,” said Denouveux. “There are emotions that they felt that day, but also, I think, the fear of asking yourself ‘Is he okay? How can I talk to him?’ And that, of course, puts you in a category. “
