Amazon fire tablets, tested, so no need (2025)

– Over there
Amazon content screw: If you sign up for Amazon’s flagship service, you can enjoy all the featured movies, music, TV, and books, a one-stop shop with its free two-day shipping. You can do most of the same things from an Android tablet or iPad, but the Fire OS interface is made specifically to deliver Amazon goods, with pages adapted for each of Amazon’s brands.
Constructed “good enough”: Body Fire tablets, Amazon’s are made of cheap-ISH plastic, but designed with enough care that the build quality won’t bother you too much. WiFi reception is excellent, and the front-facing cameras are much improved from the last release. The children’s models are also some of the best quality tablets for children, equipped with a bugged bumper, and they all have microSD slots to add more storage. (We recommend this $15 128-GB microSD card.) It’s always been possible to upgrade things by hacking Amazon’s tablets to install the Google Play store on your Fire device. Unfortunately installing a play store has become difficult and is something I no longer recommend to most people. It’s not worth the trouble when there are other cheap Android tablets available.
Cheap: Did we talk about the price? They all cost $200 or less, save the New Max 11. If you stick to the cheaper models though, they’re a great value. You can also get them through Amazon Lock-Screen Ads, which will lower your price by $15.

Non-Amazon content is limited: The greatest strength of these tablets is also their greatest weakness. If you’re not an Amazon Prime subscriber and don’t plan to get your video, audio, or books from Amazon, the Fire tablet lineup isn’t very compelling. They have Alexa, so that would be a PLUS, but again, that’s deeply integrated into Amazon’s content library. You can download third-party apps like Netflix from Amazon’s AppStore, but the choice is there – away More limited than what’s available on Apple’s iPad or the Google Play store on standard Android tablets. Rumor has it this will change next year as Amazon develops fire os, but so far it’s just a rumor.
Old technology: The technology inside these tablets is old. The processors are not the fastest, and you will probably notice a slight lag and a general lack of power compared to the most expensive android tablets. Touchscreens are not responsive or sensitive on expensive tablets. Since most Fire OS apps are built with low power in mind, you don’t see it much. The operating system is also overwritten (depending on which fire tablet you buy), which can hide some weaknesses. Amazon’s latest Fire Os is a modified version of Android 11, which came out in 2020. Amazon does update its tablets to some extent, but not as often as it should.
Short warranties: Only the Fire HD 10 comes with a full one-year warranty. Oddly enough, the smaller devices come with 90-day warranties.
Specials: AMMONI’s exclusive ads for Amazon are overrated and annoying. We recommend that you pay another $ 15 to buy a fire tablet without it.
