Home brands have gotten a lot “smarter” in recent years. In accordance with SATSTASmart Home penetration will reach 89.5 percent in 2025, and will hit 99 percent in 2029. That means almost every household in the US uses some type of Smart Home device. We’ve come a long way since the days of the clapper.

Smart home devices can add a level of convenience to everyday life, assuming they are well organized and truly offer a seamless integration and user-friendly experience.

But that leads us to ask: Which home devices should be smart?

Instead of just answering for ourselves, we put it to you, our readers. For our first Receipts Choicers awards, we asked you which smart home products you use and which different home categories you like.

The best home security cameras in 2025

First up is the security camera. In a survey conducted by US News & World Report, 62 percent of respondents use outdoor security cameras, and 36 percent use indoor security cameras. Home security cameras can obviously be better for peace of mind and a sense of security, or to watch out for Porch Pirates. But your privacy is an important consideration for a device that hijacks your foodwage, your home, and your environment.

Blink was the winner here in total satisfaction with a score of 7.8 out of 10, with ring and yze, secured in three. A note from us: We do not allow rings in our product plans due to privacy issues.

(Be sure to click the arrows in the chart below to go through each section of our survey results.)

The three products were good even across the board, but each came from other areas. Blink users appreciate the ease of setup and use, friendly pricing, and free cloud storage.

The Wyze was rated very good for cost, but rated low for sound quality and motion detection, so that could be a trade-off. Price was a big factor with survey respondents, with comments such as, “good products. Reasonable price,” “Cameras work well and the price was reasonable.”

Our readers praised the ring for its easy setup, with two respondents writing, “I have several generations of cameras over 20 years old and the ring is top notch.”

Bright light speed

A common complaint across all three products is that the cameras did not record enough time before motion was detected.

The best domestic helpers in 2025

Smart assistants are like the brains of a smart home. They act as a hub to control other devices by voice, schedule, or other triggers. Smart devices can vary from small speakers that take up very little room to large screens that sit on the countertop or face the wall. Apple’s Siri is very popular among smartphones, while Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are big names in smart home devices.

Google was our winner across the board, although Amazon Alexa was a close second. One survey respondent said, “I like Alexa for general things and integration, but google assistant [is] – better [at] answering the questions. “

Other Reviewers had the same experience that they love the convenience provided by their smart assistant, but have frustrating interactions.

Another wrote: “I had a very good experience with Amazon Alexa. One of the best times was when I put Alexa to turn everything off with my voice. However, when my hands are easily full. However, they make my hands full. My commands are not understood, especially if there is background noise or if I was not clear. It was not very worrying when it did not respond well with some smart devices, however, I found a solution to the problem.”

And a Google user wrote: “Our whole house has Google Shows, speakers, TVs integrated with Google TV, and Buls from the side, it’s just nice to be able to control everything from the Google Home app.”

The best smart lights in 2025

Smart bulbs and smart plugs are some of the most accessible home devices in terms of price and ease of use. Philips Hue, Govee, and TP-Link (Kasa) are some of the big names in smart lighting. Each has a slew of product offerings from basic white light bulbs to outdoor string lights or TV backlights.

Philips Hue is a premium brand with a high price point, and that was reflected in our survey results. Just a note: TP-Link has been under investigation for security vulnerabilities and its routers and prices.

TP-Link took the cake in most of our research categories; However, both TP-LINK and Phips Hue links are rated at the same recommendation.

One reader wrote, “the only reason the speaker ‘could’ recommend Philips hue is that it’s more expensive compared to other products.” And we saw that reflected in the comments of TP-Link users, one person wrote, “I had another brand before and found them so frustrating.”

Best Smart vacuum brand in 2025

Our resident vacuum expert, Leah Stodart, says, “The actual cleaning performance plays a big role in how well your stairs will clean, whether it’s your vacuum that’s stuck on a rug or a robot that gets stuck more often than not.” And these are the types of jobs we want to ask you about.

Only two products are made for logging by our readers, but stodart is testing vertical spaces and robot robots in his apartment and has good recommendations from other products.

Irobot offers different price points, ranging from basic and budget-friendly to high-tech and expensive complexity. Our survey participants had new models as well as older, simpler models that got the job done without extras. Another wrote, “It’s an easy-to-use, simple, Smart-End Smart Vacuum Robot; however, that makes it desirable for many people like me because it’s easier to use than complicated systems.”
