A strong case in the indoor pizza oven

Two years ago, Ooni brought the pizza team indoors with the Volt 12. With this device, the company entered New Territory and proved that its outdoor cooking style can be adapted for use in home kitchens. That model was not without its faults, including a large number of compacts and a high price. Still, it impressed me enough to earn a spot on our Best Ovens list.

With the VOLT 2 ($699), ooni completely emphasized its concept of what could be an indoor pizza oven. That starts with a slightly sleeker design than the first generation. The company has also reworked the controls, creating a button-based system that is easy to understand and centers on the new technology of Pizza Intelligence. Given Ooni’s track record of consistency and performance, it should come as no surprise that the Volt 2 is almost the perfect pizza maker.

Design renewal

As part of OONI’s facelift with the Volt 2, the exterior looks completely different, down to updated controls and a larger digital display. This new model has a refined, modern aesthetic – one that will fit right in with today’s small kitchen appliances. The overall design is soft and rounded where the first version was angular and blocky. Also, OONI chose a white version over its standard grey, giving you the power to choose one that suits your kitchen. There is also a new ish light that shines on the counter, anything above volt 2 on it, which serves as an indicator that the oven is attractive to the environment.

Up front, a group of buttons has replaced the three control symbols and a small dial from volt 12. There is one Pizza with Pow Pilligence-Powered-Powereds The last two buttons in the main group on the left side are saving custom settings. Near the center, there are three buttons for temperature control, power up and timer. To set either of these, you will use the larger silver knob all the way to the right. This knob also doubles as a function booster when you need extra power from a high-heat element.

OONI also features a new digital display on the front, giving you temperature measurements and time updates. This is a huge improvement on the 12 volt dial, which could be read from a distance. With the big numbers on the volt 2, I can just walk to the kitchen door and peek if I want an update on the process of getting to work.

There are other refinements, such as a larger viewing window on the front door, but the biggest one is the reduction in size of the volt 2. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a great device; It’s about the size of a low-profile microwave. And it’s still pretty heavy at 39 pounds. But Ooni managed to shave off a few inches here and there, and when combined with the scope of the extension construction, this makes the volt 2 seem like nothing like the 12 volt.

Almost all of the Volt 2’s new features center around what it calls pizza genius. The technology is a flexible control system for the oven that uses different heating elements and internal sensors. The setting can change the oven temperature in real time for “speed, precision and baking flexibility,” according to the company. This testut Technology serves as the basis of the tele based presets I mentioned earlier.

In particular, volt 2’s preseds include neapolitan, thin & crispy and pan pizza that allows you to start cooking without much consideration of time and heat. All of these can be changed as each has a temperature range for some good settings. Each one has its own unique grilling and cooking temperatures, both of which can be adjusted as needed.

After using all the settings during the test, I like that OONI makes its second pizza oven easy to use for beginners. Even if I have an At-Home Pizza Making experience (thanks) For more advanced users, the ability to use presets as a starting point and go of parameters ensures that the Volt 2 remains a staple in the kitchen for a long time. Also, two slots for completely customizing means that OONI technicians will have space to save their refined, man-made configuration.

You might be wondering how good the pizza that comes out of this thing is, right? After all, designs, features and specs don’t matter if the end result is terrible. That’s not the case here, and it hasn’t been in any OONI oven I’ve tested. I really enjoy baking pizzas with volt 2 (and 12 volt before) because I can do so in the comfort of my kitchen. Everything I could possibly need is close at hand and there is no open flame to maintain or monitor safety.

First, let’s talk about peace. OONI says the Volt 2 can cook a pizza in 12 minutes, and I think that’s true if you’re doing low heat baking. In my testing, the oven took exactly 25 minutes to reach 850-degree Fahrenheit Main (perfect for Neapolitan pies) and just over 18 minutes to hit 660 degrees. That last count is the target heat for a small setting and crispy, which is my favorite of the three pizza options. Both of these time savings are used in your home oven since it is more telling you to start the application of the hour.

A big consideration for the volt 2 is the size of the pizza. The oven’s baking stone can accommodate 12-inch pizzas, meaning Family Pizza Night will involve everyone making their own or at least baking several pies. In my family, I made four during my Neapolitan experiment, stretching and adding each pizza after the previous finished baking. After removing the pizza, the temperature of the stones, but the volt 2 boost feature uses a 45 second burst to help you recover. I found that by the time I carefully stretched and heated the dough, the oven was ready for the next pizza.

Beyond Neapolitan, short and crispy and Pan Pizza methods, Volt 2 produced truly stellar results in each style. I will note that I have used cleaning methods for each style from Ooni Pizza Project by Scott Deley. I’ve found that his guidance leads to amazing pizzas, even if you plan to just use your home oven. Using Volt 2, the Neapolitan pies had a great texture and were cooked quickly on high heat. The Thinner, New York-Style Pizza was actually crispy on the bottom and browned on top while I had a delicious chew. And my Detroit-Style Pan test was crispy on the edges and soft on the inside.

There are two important things to note about using the Volt 2. First, the exterior gets hot, typically 800 degrees and above. For that reason, you’ll want to avoid sitting on anything above the oven while using it (or very close to it, really). You will also need to allow time for the exterior to cool down before maintaining volt 2. The oven is running its shutdown cycle, but the exterior may be too warm to vent when that is done.

Second, despite the Steam and smoke filter, the volt 2 is still chattering in the background. I put this together in the oven on my stove top under a constant fan, but you’ll have to plan accordingly if you don’t want that in your kitchen. I saw this as a problem for several living spaces such as houses.

The competition

If you’re looking for volt alternatives, there are two main contenders. A long way to go is Breville’s Pizzaiolo. It also offers easy-to-use layouts and features in addition to manual operation. My main issue was the price, which started at $1,000 but is now at $800. That reduced price is still $100 more than the volt 2. I had a problem with the round baking area and how difficult the oven is to clean the floor when debris can fall on the bottom of the low burning stove.

There is also a current model p. This one wins the price war under $500 and also has a reset and a max heat of 850 degrees. The current app has a pizza making calculator that helps with time, temperature and ingredients. I haven’t tested this one yet, but it’s on my list for the near future.

There is nothing sophomore here. The Volt 2 is a huge upgrade over the original VOLT – that much is undeniable. It is easy to use for all skill levels due to its clear controls and large display. The setup works well, but it can also serve as a starting point for a refresher for experienced users. And pizza – my goodness, pizza is the restaurant quality that lasts (or better) in style tests. Combine that performance with a better looking design, a smaller footprint and a lower price to boot and you have a compelling case for a vertical pizza oven.
