A family source is challenging how Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance happened in the first place

A source close to the Guthrie family is pushing back on reports of how Nancy Guthrie was found missing on Sunday, February 1, saying key details of the timeline were reported incorrectly.

Early reports indicated that Nancy Guthrie was scheduled to attend a church service in Tucson this morning and was reported missing after not showing up. According to a family source, that account is not true.

A source told Fox News that for years — since the COVID pandemic — Nancy and a small group of close friends had a Sunday stand-up plan that didn’t include going to church in person. Instead, the group would meet at each other’s homes to watch a New York-based church service via live broadcast.

The service was broadcast live from a New York church attended by Savannah Guthrie, longtime “TODAY” anchor and daughter of Nancy Guthrie.

On Sunday, February 1, Nancy was expected to be at her friend’s house to watch the live broadcast, as she did every week. When he failed to arrive, the members of the group of friends became worried.

According to the source, one of the friends contacted Annie – Nancy’s daughter and Savannah Guthrie’s sister – to report that Nancy had not arrived and could not be found.

The source emphasized that Nancy was never scheduled to go to the Tucson service that day, contrary to other reports, and said that the disagreement caused confusion about the circumstances that occurred when she was reported missing.

As the investigation heats up, Savannah Guthrie made a heartbreaking public plea for help, describing the situation as a “desperate hour” as authorities investigate a ransom note linked to her mother’s disappearance.

Savannah urged anyone with information to come forward as investigators work against a paper deadline, which authorities have not publicly confirmed.

The last deadline mentioned in the alleged ransom note passed on Monday night without any proof of life or resolution.

Meanwhile, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it was pursuing what it described as “new leads” in the case, but confirmed that investigators had not yet identified any suspects, romantic partners or vehicles connected to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

“The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is ongoing and ongoing,” a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Monday evening.

“We understand the importance of public interest in this case; however, investigators need time and space to carry out their work. If and when relevant information becomes available, it will be shared,” the spokesperson added.

The department said there are no press conferences scheduled at this time, but noted that a press conference will be called if major developments occur.

Sheriff’s officials also confirmed that a law enforcement presence will continue at the Guthrie homes overnight into Tuesday as part of the ongoing investigation, which includes expanded search efforts and following up on new leads.

“To maintain the integrity of this criminal investigation, details of that program have not been released at this time,” authorities said.

Officials emphasized the level of public response so far.
