A progressive attorney called for greater scrutiny of crimes committed by “American citizens” and “white men” during a US House Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday on ongoing fraud issues in Minnesota.

This came when Democratic Gov. Tim Walz announced on Monday that he will not run for re-election. His decision to drop out of the race comes as new revelations about fraud in Minnesota from prosecutors show that the state may have lost as much as $9 billion under Walz’s leadership through abuse of public assistance programs.

Instead of pressuring witnesses for alleged fraud, some Democrats used the allotted time to focus on the Trump administration, on January 6, and other topics.

When he was questioned by Rep. State Republican Kristin Robbins, Rep. Emily Randall, D-Wash., said the committee should focus on the crimes committed by White men and the defendants on Jan. 6.

“What percentage of sexual assault in the United States is committed by White men?” asked Robbins. “57%

Randall also revealed information that 33 people he described as “January 6 revolutionaries” were pardoned and convicted of other crimes. He also pointed to data showing that 41% of murder suspects in the United States in 2023 were White and that a website that tracks domestic tyranny found that most of the suspects were men.

“We can pull out all the information we want to create the idea that there is a bad person, there is a bad group of people, there are people who are not among us, there are other people, and I think we should spend a lot of time looking at them,” said Randall.

“If we look at American citizens. If we look at white men, they are committing disproportionate violence in our country, they are committing disproportionate crimes in our country, including the President of the United States, who is sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, as many of our colleagues have pointed out,” he added.

In recent months, investigators have discovered large-scale fraud schemes in Minnesota involving organizations masquerading as child care centers, medical providers and food aid organizations. Authorities say these groups are defrauding millions of government funds by building facilities or increasing the number of people they claim to be working for them.

“The fraudsters — many of whom are from Minnesota’s Somali community — were involved in programs designed to feed needy children, provide services to children with diabetes, house low-income and disabled Americans, and provide health care to those at risk of receiving Medicaid,” Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said during the hearing.
