A Jetblue plane avoids a mid-air collision with a US Air Force jet near Venezuela – nationally

A jetblue airways pilot narrowly avoided a mid-air collision with a plane that entered its flight path on Friday while flying near Venezuela, according to the airline.
“We almost had a mid-air collision here,” the pilot said, according to a recording of his conversation with air traffic control. “They went straight into our flight path …. They don’t have their transponsery opened. It’s amazing.”
JetBlue Flight 1112 took off from the Caribbean island of Curaçao, bound for JFK City’s JFK Airport.
“We had a traffic pass directly in front of us within five US miles – maybe two or three miles – but it was an Air-to-Air Refruele from the United States Air Force and he was about to stop our climb,” said the pilot.
“It was too bad for an unknown hole within our spirit. You are right, sir,” he answered.
“We had to abort our climb and actually descend to avoid hitting ourselves,” the pilot told the controller. “We will make a report on our end as well, but we didn’t let their messengers open, so there is no way for you to see them.”

The US Air Force plane then entered Venezuelan AirSpace, the pilot said.
Derek Dorbrowski, a spokesman for JeetBlue, said the company has “reported the incident to federal authorities and will participate in any investigation.”
“Our staff members are trained in the proper procedures for various flight situations, and we encourage our staff to immediately report this situation to our leadership team,” added the New York Times statement.
The US Southern Command told ABC news in a statement that “we are aware of recent reports about our warplanes in the Caribbean” and “reviewing this matter.”
“Military aircraft are trained professionals who work in accordance with established procedures and operational requirements of AirSpace. Safety is always a priority, and we are working on the appropriate channels to assess the situation surrounding this situation,” the agency said.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a warning last month for us in the US to “Be Careful” When in Venezuelan AirSpace “Due to the military situation caused by and because of the Venezuelan military.”
The FAA continues to warn pilots of the dangers from military expansion, and many commercial airlines have been avoiding Venezuelan AirSpace for years due to security concerns.
US President Donald Trump demanded that the AirSpace “above and around Venezuela” should be considered closed. He made the announcement on his social media account, but didn’t give any more details.
“To all airplanes, pilots, drug dealers, and human traffickers, please note that the airspace above and around Venezuela will be completely closed,” Trump wrote. “Thank you for your attention to this matter! President Donald J. Trump.”
The comments come as the Trump administration is deploying troops to the Caribbean as part of what it calls an expanded campaign to target drug trafficking in the United States.
