Activists hang portrait of former prince Andrew in Louvre – National

A British activist group is hanging a portrait in the Louvre of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly known as Prince Andrew) taken after his arrest last week.

The political campaign group Everybody Hates Elon posted a Reuters photo of the former prince – showing him looking shocked and horrified as he sat in the back seat of a Range Rover – on the wall of a Paris gallery on Sunday. The infamous photographer is Phil Noble.

A group of protestors shared a video on Instagram of the process, which shows someone pasting a photo to a wall. It remained on the Louvre wall for about one hour before it was taken down, ITV News reported.

Underneath the picture was a sign, which read “You’re Sweating Now,” a reference to a statement Mountbatten-Windsor made during an interview with British journalist Emily Maitliss in 2019, where she said Virginia Giuffre’s allegations that she was sweating while dancing with him in a London club were false because she had a condition that prevented her for a while.

Giuffre, one of the most high-profile victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, said she was trafficked by the late Mountbatten-Windsor patron and forced to sleep with him when she was 17. The former prince denies any criminal charges, but in 2022, he settled a lawsuit for an estimated £10 million or more.

Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025.

This photo taken from the front pages of a British newspaper last week, showed the result of Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest on Thursday, which is his 66th birthday.

Everybody Hates Elon tends to target rich, high-profile people by inciting public antics. In September, ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK, the group displayed a large photo of Trump and Epstein outside Windsor Castle and later displayed large photos and video of Epstein and Mountbatten-Windsor on its exterior walls.

Last June, before the wedding of tech-billionaire Jeff Bezos in the Venetian and Lauren Sánchez, the group unveiled a huge banner in Piazza San Marco that said, “If you can’t rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more taxes,” and included a picture of Bezos, his head thrown back and his mouth open with laughter.

Mountbatten-Windsor’s relationship with Epstein forced her to abdicate in 2019. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, abdicated his throne in 2022.

In October 2025, King Charles III removed his brother’s title as Duke of York and his remaining titles. Shortly thereafter, it was confirmed that Mountbatten-Windsor would no longer be called the prince or His Highness, but as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Calls for Andrew to be removed from the royal list emerged last week, with many British politicians and government officials showing support for the bill to remove him, which would have to be agreed by the 15 members of the Commonwealth, King Charles, head of state, including Canada.

Mountbatten-Windsor is currently eighth in line behind her nephews, Prince William and Prince Harry, and their children.

Her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, are ninth and 12th in line, respectively.

The Louvre said it would not comment on the Mountbatten-Windsor statue incident, according to several British outlets.
