All states pornHub is banned from 2025

Update: Nov. 7, 2025, 3:29 PM EST This article has been updated to include the Arizona and Ohio laws.

pornHub clear pornHub is now banned in 22 states of America.

This is due to age verification rules. These laws vary by state, but usually require site visitors with a third-party content limit to present a Government ID or other form of authentication. Louisiana was the first state to introduce such a fee a few years ago, and now others have followed suit. In June, the Supreme Court upheld Texas’ age-verification statute, setting a precedent for such funds that have come before and since.

Porn censorship will destroy the entire Internet

According to one preliminary study, age verification will not work to keep young people from porn sites. This is due to software such as VPNS that allow a person to appear to be in a different location, and due to inconsistent websites. (The Florida Attorney General is targeting foreign-based porn sites for ineffective age verification.) Still, these laws continue to be passed — and include websites that don’t look good, too, experts told Mashable.

PornHub is not banned in Ohio despite the age verification law, due to a section of the law that defines age verification methods that do not apply to an active computer service provider (Aylo considers one).

In Louisiana, where users must bring an ID to view pornHub, we saw an 80 percent drop in traffic, Aylo (pornhub’s parent company) told mashable.

“These people don’t stop looking at porn. They just move to dark corners of the Internet that don’t ask users to verify their age and children,” said Indoy, “said Aylo when asked to comment on Mashable back in January.

In a statement to Mashable, Aylo continued:

First, to be clear, Aylo has a high level of age verification for users, but we believe that any rule to this effect should preserve the user’s safety and privacy, and should effectively protect children from accessing content intended for adults.

Unfortunately, the way many few geristictions in the world choose to achieve age verification is ineffective, Haphagamard, and dangerous. Any regulation that requires hundreds of thousands of adult sites to collect sensitive amounts of highly sensitive information that puts user safety at risk. In addition, as experience has shown, unless it works well, users will simply access non-compliant sites or find other ways to avoid these rules.

Industry experts say that, in addition to not working for their intended purpose, the age verification rules also raise concerns about privacy protection and security since websites now have to contain personal information. It will be difficult to remain anonymous online, which experts warn is dangerous to free speech. Senior industry experts Mashable spoke to Chaser about the age verification rules allowed for device-level filtering, as did aylo in its statement.

One of the authors of Project 2025, Russell has appeared, was caught in a secret recording suggesting that age verification laws are a “back door” to a wider ban on porn.
