US forces carried out strikes against Venezuela early Saturday, US officials confirmed to Fox News.
At least seven explosions were heard in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, early Saturday morning, according to the Associated Press, and low-flying planes were seen flying over Caracas around 2 a.m. local time.
The Venezuelan government said in a statement that “the civilian and military areas of the city of Caracas, the capital of the Republic, and the regions of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira” contributed to the attack.
Other details about the project were not yet available. Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House, the Department of Defense and the State Department for comment.

The government of Venezuela, led by President Nicolás Maduro, has issued a major sanction, accusing the US of committing “extreme military violence” against Venezuela and committing “imperialist violence.”
“The purpose of this attack is none other than to take Venezuela’s resources, especially oil and minerals, to try to break the political freedom of the Nation,” the Venezuelan Government said in a statement. “They will not succeed. After more than two hundred years of independence, the people and their legitimate Government remain steadfast in their defense of sovereignty and the inalienable right to determine their own future.”
The Venezuelan government said “the attempt to force a colonial war to destroy the Republican form of government and force a ‘regime change,’ in collaboration with the fascist oligarchy, will fail like all previous attempts.”

The attack comes as the US military targets suspected drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
Maduro said on Thursday his government was open to talks with the United States after months of pressure by the US military to target drug trafficking rings tied to his government.
In a pre-recorded interview with Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet that aired on state television, Maduro said Venezuela was “ready” to discuss a drug-trafficking agreement with the U.S. He called on countries to “start talking seriously, with data in hand.”
“The US government knows, because we have told many spokesmen that if they want to discuss the agreement against drug trafficking in detail, we are ready,” he said. “If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for US investment, like Chevron, whenever they want it, wherever they want it and however they want it.”
