Ashley Tisdale French quit moms’ groups after feeling alienated by “silly girls” from the community she originally wanted.
In an article titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Squad” shared with The Cut, the actor raved about what he believed was finding his “town” with women, but instead felt thrown “back to high school.”
The “High School Musical” star, who has daughters Jupiter, four, and Emerson, 15 months, with her husband Christopher French, initially “felt lucky” to have the group after missing out on regular pre-baby activities due to the pandemic.

“After the birth of my first daughter, I wanted to connect with other mothers,” she wrote. “I needed someone to talk to about what diaper bag to buy, whether the Snoo is right for me, and how to do everything if you have to ‘put the baby to sleep.’
Tisdale’s innocent attempts to connect with other like-minded mothers proved challenging, however. At one point, the actor turned to social media after feeling isolated from the group.
“I remember being left out of a few groups, and I knew about them because Instagram made sure to feed me all the Instagram photos and stories,” he wrote.

“One time, at one of my mother’s dinner parties, I noticed where I was sitting with her – which was at the end of the table, away from all the women. I was starting to feel frozen outside of the group, noticing all the ways that they didn’t seem to count me in.”

He added, “When everyone else went to dinner together, I was met with excuses as to why I wasn’t invited. I still don’t understand why I wasn’t at the girl they planned for my daughter’s birthday.”
After putting her daughter to bed one night, she felt left out and wondered if she wasn’t “cool enough” for other mothers.
“Suddenly, I was in high school again, feeling completely at a loss as to what I was doing ‘wrong’ to be left out,” she wrote.
Tisdale refused to remain silent, then texted the group after missing another show.

He recalled sending a message saying, “This is too high a school for me and I don’t want to participate in it anymore,” which didn’t sit well with my mother.
“Some tried to fix things,” he recalled. “One sent flowers, he ignored me when I thanked him for them. Another tried to show me that everyone thought I was invited to the gatherings but I didn’t show up.”

Tisdale wondered if leaving the group in silence would have been a better decision, but she felt proud knowing she spoke her mind.
“Being a mother has enough challenges without wondering if the people around you are on your side,” she added. “You deserve to go through motherhood with people who are actually, you know, like you. And if you have to wonder what they’re doing, here’s a hard-earned lesson that I hope you’ll take to heart: It’s not the right team for you. Even if it looks like they’re having a great time on Instagram.”
