Atletico Madrid Star Cracks Himself on Barcelona Talk

Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez has been linked with Barcelona from time to time in recent months, but the World Cup winner has confirmed his focus is on his current club. The blaugrana are looking for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
In the summer, Alvarez was cited as one of Barcelona’s top targets, as well as President Joan Laporta’s choice. His agent left the door open to a move in 2026, but recently, the Catalan side have cooled their interest.
Speaking in an interview with Marca, Alvarez said he can guess.
“Look, it doesn’t bother me. I try not to pay too much attention, but I know what’s being said. I think it’s more about doing that, about continuing to grow as a player, and about finding.”

Interviews with Tristian Romero of Tottenham
Meanwhile another player Athletic Madrid pursued in the summer was Tratenham HotSpur’s Cristian Romero, Alvarez’s teammate. He confirmed that they had talked about a possible move.
“Yes, yes. Obviously I would have liked it to happen, Cutii is one of the best defenders in the world. I think he is a star, but I got some details, but I hope we can play together.”
Atletico Madrid’s downfall last season and Outlook for the future
Last season Atletico were in contention for three competitions in March, but in the space of a month, their ambitions collapsed. The Argentine forward was asked to be tested in those final months of the year.
“Yeah, I think everybody’s taking stock. But, like I was saying, in those last months where everything was decided, but we know for sure, and that’s what I was getting unfortunately, but we were investigating well, and that’s what I wasn’t cool with, but that’s what I was cool with.”

Apollo recently became the majority investor in Atletico Madrid, in a corner that valued the club at €2.5b. As they look to grow the club, both Diego Sime Director and Sporting Director Mateu Alemany have made it clear they want to make Alvarez the face of that growth. Alvarez himself was sleeping with an atletico trajectory.
“Yes, I think these days we are in a position to compete with anyone, and as I have been saying before, this club has grown a lot. In this last window, we are at a high level, and the club still has room to improve.”
