California authorities are giving Planned Parenthood $140 million to keep 109 clinics open and remove some funding from cuts imposed by Republicans in Washington, Democrat Gov. Gavin Newlom.

NewsOm said the move affirms the government’s continued commitment to abortion for women in the Golden State Office amid President Donald Trump’s and Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.

“California is a reproductive freedom state, and this latest investment continues to demonstrate our belief in protecting access to essential health care in times of need,” NewsOm said in a statement Thursday. “Trump’s efforts to decriminalize Planned Parenthood put all of our communities at risk as people demand basic health care from these public providers.”
