A new Federal lawsuit mentions the most horrific conditions in the California station, including sewage bubbles that rise from the toilet and the bindings that are forced to use dirty wounds.

The American Civil Liveties Union is among the groups representing seven men at the mothlined prison in the desert city of California.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, alleged inadequate medical care for serious problems such as cancer, life-threatening heart conditions and diabetes, as well as neglect and neglect of disabled people.

The complaint also alleges dirty housing units, insufficient food and water, soaring temperatures, restrictions on family visits and attorney delays. Detainees report intrusions into their religious freedom, including being taken from under mats, head coverings and even scriptures.

“ICE is playing with people’s lives, and they treat people like trash, like nothing,” one of the plaintiffs, Shean Keo, said in a statement Thursday. “Some of the people I’m tied up with even have soap – they take shows without soap – and they lose weight because they don’t have enough.”

A spectacular and destructive infrastructure was reported in that center, where the men were told when it first opened to clean dirty cells and houses full of garbage and “toilets full of them” without finding cleaning materials.

The complaint says the detention center has harsher conditions than a criminal prison. The directions are carried out in their cells for most of the day without keeping them, they stay there, “leading to a broad sense of despair, despair, in some cases, in others to see.”

“No one, immigrant or non-immigrant, should be subjected to these horrific conditions,” another plaintiff, Gustavo Guevara, said in a statement. “I hope the public is aware of the abuse, the neglect, the neglect, and the basic treatment that we are being cheated on. That is not right because we feel that we can’t be bothered that they treat us this way.”

Fernando Gomez Ruiz, who has diabetes, was eating at a food truck outside a Home Depot when he became frozen last month. He said he was denied regular doses of insulin, “which led to high blood sugar levels and a large ulcer, on the bottom of his foot” which he covered up, according to the lawsuit, emphasizing that he was afraid of the foot.

The prison was closed in 2023, but Snow is allowed to open the facility as a migrant immigration center with a capacity of 2,560 beds. Authorities began sending migrants to the center starting in late August.

“The treatment of people detained in California City Aktion is another way to ignore the human rights and dignity of the people in its custody,” said Kyle Virgien, senior staff attorney at ACLU’s National Dystrop Project, said in a statement. “Access to necessities such as food, basic medical care, and counseling are not propositions – they are constitutionally protected rights to which all incarcerated persons are entitled.”

It currently holds about 800 people, and is expected to reach full capacity early next year, as the Trump administration continues to target immigrant communities as part of the president’s deportation agenda.

Department of Homeland Security Tricia Mclaughlin denied the allegations, saying that the ice has “higher incarceration standards” than most prisons.

“All detainees are provided with 3 meals a day, clean water, clothes, beds, bealers, and access to telephones to communicate with their family members and lawyers. Certified persons check the food,” the statement said.
