CES 2026: TCL debuts super quantum dot TV instead of Micro RGB

TCL’s TV announcement at CES 2026 doesn’t follow the RGB trend expected of major TV companies. Still, the new TCL X11L SQD-Mini LED TV may end up being one of the brightest and most impressive TVs of the year.

This mini-LED version is unlike the mini-LED setups we’ve seen on flagship TVs in recent years. First announced in China in September 2025, TCL’s SQD technology represents Super Quantum dot. Gizmochina explains that SQD uses a single-chip white light source instead of the true red, green, and blue light sources seen in the Micro RGB TVs released by Samsung and LG this CES season.

But the goal is the same: to produce very high brightness, usually only possible with QLED and mini-LED panels, and pure black and contrast levels, usually only possible with OLED panels – simultaneously.

Mashable got a chance to preview the new TCL TV ahead of CES 2026, too a lot bright. Additionally, a TCL representative told Mashable that they believe this TV will be able to compete directly with the new Micro RGB TVs recently announced by Samsung and LG. The TCL X11L also features a unique speaker line along the bottom bevel, with Bang & Olufsen sound.

TCL X11L SQD-Mini LED TV: Specifications

The X11L achieves what TCL calls “100 percent BT2020 color” by using 20,000 direct dimming points (three times more than the premium TCL QM9K). Over 10,000 nits of brightness, that should give a ton of opportunity for precise adjustments to brightness during dark scenes that are often a local problem for non-OLED TVs.
