Christian author Philip Yancey admits that he had an extramarital affair for many years

Christian author Philip Yancey, who has been married for more than fifty years, has admitted to a long-term affair, telling Christianity Today in a statement that he has “retired” from the ministry.
Yancey did not speak out or seek to defend the issue – he acknowledged the sinfulness of his behavior and the tragic consequences of his actions.
“What embarrasses me the most, I admit that for eight years I intentionally had sex with a married woman. My behavior contradicted everything I believe about marriage. It was completely incompatible with my faith and my scriptures and caused great pain to her husband and both of our families. I will not give any more information out of respect for the other family,” she said in a statement, according to the paper.

“I have confessed my sin before God and my wife, and I have committed myself to a program of professional counseling and accountability. I have failed morally and spiritually, and I am saddened by the damage I have caused. I am aware that my actions will disappoint readers who relied on my writing before. The worst, my sin has brought shame to God. I do not repent of standing, mercy and grace of God,” it was noted, according to the store.
“Now I am focused on rebuilding trust and restoring my marriage of 55 years. Since I have withdrawn from the Christian ministry, therefore I stop writing, speaking, and social media. Instead, I need to spend my remaining years living according to the words I have already written. In a statement, Janet Yancey noted that despite this “hurt and damage” she does not plan to break her “marriage vow,” and asked people to pray for her and her husband.
“I, Janet Yancey, speak from a place of trauma and trauma that can only be understood by people who have lived through betrayal. However, I made a sacred and binding marriage vow 55½ years ago, and I will not break that promise. In a 2023 episode about being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Yancey wrote, “I have an all-knowing wife of 52 years who takes my life and my life as a personal challenge.”
“Sixteen years ago, when I lay strapped to the backboard with a broken neck after a car accident, Janet drove through a blizzard to get me out. She was already mentally redesigning our house in case she needed to prepare for life with a disabled person. She shows that same selfless, fierce integrity now, just as she faces the potentially difficult part of caregiving,” she wrote in the caregiving role.
