Days of Our Lives reveals that detectives JJ Deveraux (Casey Moss) and Shawn-Douglas Brady (Brandon Beemer) had a near-death encounter with Vivian Alamain’s (Louise Sorel) accomplice Klaus Mueller (Bassel Alzaro) this week, and Liam Selejko (Hank Northrop) was about to be shot by Klaus, but shot JJ instead.
Thankfully, Shawn showed up and saved the day. But it seems that JJ may be on the edge of a spiral. And I wonder if he’s going to hit the booze or the pill bottle like he did in the past or the worst thing he did in the past when he blew up. We’ll get into what happened to JJ.
JJ Stops During a Shoot with Klaus on Days of Our Lives
So, we have a really shocked JJ. And now Shawn is seriously injured, but the good news is that he’s going to be okay. He is in the hospital after shooting twice with Klaus. So, the good news is that Shawn seems to have finished evil Klaus. We soon saw JJ on the move after failing to protect his work partner and cousin, Shawn.
And JJ also almost stood there and let Liam get shot from a standing position. I mean, he’s hurt, but not too much. And honestly, I feel like this might be coming because of the many hints they’ve dropped during JJ’s interactions with Theo Carver (Cameron Johnson) over the past few months.
You know, JJ felt like he was in a good place in life. He was taking sensitivity training courses. He would be counseling as part of his healing from the trauma of shooting Theo Carver years ago. And of course, he’s forgiven JJ and decided he’s okay with being in the army again. Theo, you know, brought that up.
JJ’s DOOL Past: Shooting Theo and Almost Taking His Life
So, a little backstory for those who may not know, may not remember, maybe new. About eight years ago, police officer JJ Deveraux shot and killed Theo as he fled the scene wearing a hoodie. Theo was hired for a robbery. I think Cade hired him, so he was out doing shady things, but JJ got fired. And Theo was clearly unarmed.
JJ was upset when he realized that he had shot Theo. And in that moment after the shooting, JJ ended up taking his own life. He even wrote farewell letters to all his loved ones, and gave away all his belongings. Not only that, but he broke up with his girlfriend at the time, Lani Price (Sal Stowers), because of all the crimes he had.
And JJ was facing suspension and charges with the SPD. So, he couldn’t take it anymore. Then JJ went and checked into a hotel on Christmas Eve 2017. And I think that was eight and a half, nine years ago. So he planned to overindulge on purpose.
Days of Our Lives: Gabi Saves JJ
However, Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) recently had this feeling, this gut feeling, a hunch that JJ needed help. And he got there at the right time and stopped him. And then Gabi stayed the night with JJ to keep him safe and she was talking to him through the great stress and this critical time that he was going through. After that, things started to get a little better for JJ.
Then Theo woke up from his slumber. That was Christmas Day 2017, but he was paralyzed and there was a very long road to recovery for Theo. But eventually he learned to walk again. And he was in this special center in Johannesburg, South Africa and Theo forgave JJ’s bad mistake and then you know he moved there and he and Theo became business partners in South Africa.
So, in recent months we’ve had Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) bring Theo home from South Africa to run. The DiMera Company and was surprised to find out that JJ was back in Salem and had a job with the Salem PD again. And if you don’t remember, his girlfriend cheated and JJ got hurt.
That’s why he returned to the city before Theo. And Theo went to try to get senior cop Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) to fire JJ and was telling her stuff about the shooting. But Jada insisted that JJ was a good cop and was taking the necessary classes and getting counseling to stay a cop and do a good job at it.
JJ Had A PTSD Flashback During The Days Of Shooting
And now Theo and JJ have finally reached a level of trust again, and actually celebrated St. Patrick’s Day Patrick of The Brady Pub together drinking those green spritzers. But things changed when JJ returned to the bar. He had left something behind when he was with Theo.
That’s when JJ meets Shawn and they fight for a while and then Shawn gets a message that Klaus has been spotted at the warehouse. So, JJ and Shawn run out Brady Pub, he went there to find a bad person.
Meanwhile, Klaus was grappling with Liam and he had his gun out and Klaus was about to put a bullet in Liam’s head to tie up the loose ends so he couldn’t take Vivian into DiMera’s captivity.
But JJ got there first, then, you know, Liam and Klaus got there and he got in front of Liam while Klaus was guiding the boy. And then JJ just stopped. Then he was tormented by this summary of the night he almost killed Theo while he was at work. And that delay gave Klaus time to shoot and the bullet grazed Liam’s arm.
Days of Our Lives: Shawn Saves the Day
Then Shawn appeared and jumped in front of both of them, JJ and Liam, just as Klaus was getting ready to fire the gun and Shawn and Klaus shot each other at the same time. At that moment, Liam started running. Lumuthi thwansu uwa uwa, it is understandable that both Klaus and Shawn were shot, JJ just stood there in disbelief and then went out and shouted for help.
Thank you, Days of Our Lives the spoilers point out to Shawn that he is passing by. He and JJ are talking later this week about University Hospital. And I wonder if JJ will tell Shawn that it was his fault he got shot because he passed out and couldn’t do his job.
Will JJ Spiral do it again?
This turn of events could cost JJ everything again. JJ might be on vacation with Shawn and Jada has to investigate a police officer involved shooting. The last time JJ pulled out his gun on the job was the incident with Theo. And then JJ almost killed himself over all that. Now his cousin Shawn is lucky to be alive and JJ’s coldness is a contributing factor to his shooting.
And this time the case he hears will be different because JJ did nothing. He did not shoot. He didn’t do what he was supposed to do, he wasn’t trained to do. Three people received bullet wounds. Liam with a very young child, Shawn with a very serious one, and Klaus who seems to be enjoying a messy nap at this point.
Then we saw JJ turn to drinking or drugs on top of all of this to start dealing with the pain again. If you remember, JJ had a drug problem coming out of high school. Also, she’s not dating anyone right now, so she’s lonely, and that means no one will see the warning signs. His parents are all over the country. But the good news is that he is not alone. And of course, Gabi’s ship sailed in the past when JJ allegedly shot EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel).
Days of Our Lives: Will Gabi be in again?
But you’ll probably see these same warning signs. And hopefully Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) will keep an eye on JJ because she is family and lives in the Horton house. However, Julie is busy. So, you know, we’ll see.
And this might hurt JJ and Julie, especially since she’s teaching Liam. And of course, we know that Theo is not happy that Liam is there because that was his high school bully. To be fair, petty criminal Liam apologized for his role in the DiMera kidnapping, which Theo walked into.
So, is JJ going to tell Shawn the truth that he had a PTSD flashback and he stood there and couldn’t do his job and that’s why Liam got shot and that’s why Shawn got shot? So, I wonder if Theo will be there to comfort JJ. I think Theo is someone JJ can confide in.
And I really hope JJ doesn’t get out. You know, maybe Gabi will see the signs and help him or tell other people who need to help him. The new police drama may not be good for anyone involved, especially JJ Deveraux. But at least Shawn will survive.
