DHS arrests illegal immigrant protected by sanctuary policies in Oregon

FIRST ON FOX: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has arrested an illegal immigrant charged with rape, procuring sex with a minor, and sexual assault in Oregon, after the immigrant was released on bail under sanctuary policies.

Manuel Cruz-Ramirez, who still faces multiple charges, was not turned over to immigration officials when he was arrested and released because of Marion County’s sanctuary status.

This illegal immigrant from Mexico was caught only because he used a fake Mexican passport at Portland International Airport. TSA and CBP agents were flagged when his fake name did not return full data, according to DHS.

“Manuel Cruz-Ramirez was arrested for rape, procuring sex with a minor, and sexual assault in Oregon,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital. “Politicians at the center of the state allowed this rapist to be released from prison and return to American communities.”

In non-temple cities, Cruz-Ramirez would turn himself in to immigration officials, who would arrest him before he was released from custody.

“The American people can be proud of the swift action of the TSA and CBP in protecting them and our justice system in preventing this monster from fleeing the country,” McLaughlin explained. “Illegal aliens should not be released from prison and back onto our streets to terrorize innocent Americans.

“Oregon politicians need to stop this madness of letting child predators out of jail and back into our communities to prey on innocent children,” he added.

DHS also told Fox News Digital that Cruz-Ramirez was deported from the US in 2018, although he re-entered the country at an unknown location and time. He is now in ICE custody and his removal order has been reinstated.

Portland was one of several cities where protesters gathered to confront law enforcement.

On Thursday, Fox News Digital reported that DHS has launched an investigation into an Oregon man who was arrested during a traffic stop with knives and Molotov cocktail equipment.

An 18-year-old Oregon resident allegedly wrote a manifesto with intent to kill ICE at the Portland ICE office. The man reportedly told authorities that he was planning to pick up an AR-15 rifle to carry out an attack.

Democrats, including those in Congress, have called ICE agents Nazis and the Gestapo, and the Trump administration says such rhetoric endangers the lives of law enforcement officers across the country.

In an interview with Fox News Digital earlier this month, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem noted the difference between some cities and those controlled by far-left leaders, saying that in cities where authorities cooperate with federal laws there is much less conflict.

“Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Twin Cities, have an opportunity to do the same thing as Memphis. There we had a Democrat mayor who worked with us,” Noem told Fox News Digital. “It was about the same size as the city, about the same number of law enforcement officers there, and we reduced the crime and homicide rates significantly and we worked well together.”
