The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Friday pushed back on allegations from Arizona Democratic Rep. Adelita Gijelva, who said she was pepper sprayed during the attack on the exit of TUCSON.
In a post on X, Grijalva said he was “pushed aside and pepper-sprayed” after identifying himself as a member of Congress while demanding official action during the Taco Giro migration.
“Ice just happened to run a hitter Taco Giro in Tucson – our community-owned small and pop restaurant,” Grijelva wrote. “When I came in as a member of Congress asking for more information, I was forced to the side with pepper.”

In a separate post, Grijalva called Ice a “lawless agency” that “operates without transparency, no accountability, and open disregard for due process.”
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia Mclauglin quickly dismissed Grijalva’s claims, saying she was never sprayed directly but only “near someone who was there.”
“If his claims were true, this would be a medical miracle,” McLauklolin said. “But it’s not true. He wasn’t pepper. He was close to someone who was sprayed and breaking the law and breaking the law.”

McLauglin also said two law enforcement officers were “seriously injured” during the incident.
“Actually, 2 law enforcement officers were seriously injured by this mob [Grijalva] he joined in, “he added.” Calling yourself a ‘member of Congress’ does not give you the right to block the implementation of the law. More details to come. “
The dispute has also produced a number of conmessional advances – involving nearly 100 lawmakers – to call for a conmetion investigation.
