Elon Musk tells Joe Rogan that he’s going to launch a flying car later this year

Billionaire Oligarch Elon Musk appeared on the latest episode of Joe Rogan’s Podcast on Friday. And while most of the conversation covered topics we’ve heard before, Musk decided to drop some news about something he wants to do by the end of the year: a flying car.
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before – from the mask itself, no less, who has been talking about making a flying car since at least 2014.
Musk’s flying car dreams come from the context of the Tesla Roadster, a car that was produced from 2008 to 2012. When Rogan was promised by the CESLA CEO about the Roadster’s status, Mesk slowly made it clear that she wanted it to fly. But it took him a while during the interview to actually see what he was talking about.
“We’re close to ….” Musk said with a long pause, “…showing the prototype. One thing I can guarantee is that this product demo will be unforgettable. Unforgettable.”
Rogan didn’t really understand because Musk didn’t reveal that he was talking about a flying car. The podcaster asked him how he could be forgotten. Muski responded with a laugh, “for better or for worse, it’s unforgettable.” Rogan was still confused, asking Susk to explain.
“You know, my friend Peter Thiyeli, once showed that the future should have flying cars, but we don’t have flying cars,” said Susk, finally giving an idea.
Thiel, a friend of Palantir and Musk from his days at PayPal, is one of those millionaires who spend their days talking about the antichrist in a more serious way. Rogan didn’t understand what he meant and pressed him hard, to which Sumps replied, “I think if Peter wants to fly a car, we should be able to buy one.”
Rogan asked Musk if the car would get a “restored wing,” asking him to expand. Muski responded that he “can’t make an addition before the reveal,” but said he thinks, “It’s shot to be a product that you won’t miss very much.” The billionaire said he hopes to reveal it “before the end of the year,” he stressed -hopefully.
None of this should surprise anyone who has been following Musk for the past decade. He often likes to release prototypes and ideas long before they are ready to deliver. That doesn’t mean you’ll actually see those things in the form they were promised.
Remember musk’s hyperloop idea? Or a multi-loop system, which should have been a 155-ter-per-hour travel system? It could carry 16 people at a time, they wandered around the tunnels under the cities. When it came time for the musk to deliver, he built a tunnel in Las Vegas where human drivers began to drive people around people in standard Tesla cars at high speed.
Which means Musk may be holding a demo of the flying car soon, even though the prototype is nothing like a product hitting the market. Musk also unveiled an autonomous cybercab last year, and there are no indications that it will be released anytime soon. Robotaxis, on the other hand (Tesla’s standard cars that drive “autonomously” with a safety driver in the passenger seat), have already been shut down by people in Texas.
There is also a problem that confronts all flying car designs of the last century: Since flying is more difficult and dangerous than driving, how big is the market for something like this? Any passenger aircraft in the US needs to be flown by a person with a pilot’s license. Except, of course, it’s a lovely flying car. And that presents its own food challenges, such as air traffic congestion.
The full episode, available on YouTube, includes an extensive interview, but Musk is frustrated during his walk on his flight path while talking to Rogan.
“You know, we need to make sure it works,” Musk said. “Like this is some crazy, crazy technology we’ve got in this car. Crazy … Technology. Crazy crazy.”
Rogan asked him if it was different than the previously announced Roadster, which Musk confirmed.
“It has crazy technology. Like, is it even a car? I’m not sure. It looks like a car,” Musk said. “Let’s put it this way. It’s more amazing than anything James Bond… If you took all the James Bond cars and put them together, it’s more runaway.”
It is interesting that Musk gives a hint that it may be a “car.” It is entirely possible that this means developing a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicle, which usually does not drive on the road, but can still carry passengers. Many of the vTol promises of the past decade have held titles like ‘flying cars,’ even though they don’t actually drive on the road and function more like helicopters.
Rogan was surprised, saying he didn’t know what to think because he was only getting “a limited amount of information.” MUSK, clearly reluctant, told Rogan that if he wanted to see it before the opening, he would show it.
Will we see a flying car soon? It sounds like. But we’ve had flying cars since at least the 1950s. Will we see something that will be more than just a bright distraction from the fact that the sale of Tesla cars is still happening that Musk agreed with President Donald Trump and did those two Nazi things? That part remains to be seen.
