Former Olympic Champion Charles Cost dies aged 101

French Cyclist Charles Coste, the oldest living Olympian and 1948 gold medalist, has died, the international committee confirmed on Monday. He was 101.
“We must say goodbye to the Olympic hero by cycling from London 1948 and the penultimate tortorbor to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, said President Charles,” said IOC President Kirsty Covenry in a statement.

Coste, who was the second Olympian to light the Olympic flame at the 2024 Paris Games, died last Thursday, according to French President Emmanuel Macron’s Office.

Cotste won gold at the 1948 London Olympics in the team pursuit. Just the year before, he received his first medal after winning the individual pursuit following the French Amateur Championship. Shortly after winning his Olympic medal, the French cyclist won Bronze in the 1948 World Championship.

He retired in 1959, having entered, but not completed, two tours de France.
The order of CATSE, which included the second victory of Italy in Italy in the 1948 games of the main line of the Olympics, was remembered next to the Olympic flames of Marifi Rine.
“Charles Coste has left us, I was very proud of him passing the Olympic pool for me during the Paris 2024 Games,” said Rini.
